Read this book over the last few weeks. It's the first book of Oscar Wilde that I've read and I was very impressed. He's very insightful and I highly recommend it. I'll be checking out more of his stuff.

Anyone have any recommendations for other books he's written?

The Picture of Dorian Gray was impressive. Although that is the only other book of his that i have read by Wilde, i would suggest anything by him. I have a book called The Most Brilliant Thought of All Time (in two lines or less), and he is quoted so many times in it, im sure just about anything else you read by him will impress you.

I recommend "The Importance of Being Earnest". It is a hilarious play that mocks the ideas and values of the rich in his time.

My favorite oscar wilde story:

During a private tutorial while Wilde was studying at Oxford, he was translating a passage of new testament Greek--the trial of Jesus. When the tutor said that he had done enough for the day, Wilde responded, "Oh, please, can't we continue? I'd love to see what happens to the poor fellow." The tutor checked into the infirmary.

Personally, I thing "De Profundis" and "Salome" are not only important, but beautiful works of literature (I mean, besides Dorian Gray and The Importance of Being Ernest).
Also, Wilde wrote some really interesting stuff that has to do with Art criticism.

PS: Nice post, Menshevick...

HASTA LA VICTORIA SIEMPRE!
