It was true to a certain extent in 1948 in some asian countries.

They were either victorious, were defeated/marginalized, or became isolated groups desperate with self-maintaining terrorists with little connection to the masses or the working class.

The Cuban Revolution was a lesson for US imperialists. They were able to develop new techniques for squashing guerrilla armies, as was the case in Guevara in Bolivia. The CIA had trained a group of Bolivian soldiers on how to combat guerrilla armies. One of these ways was to have a specialized group of soldiers whose sole objective was to keep the guerrillas constantly on their toes and more or less pinned down geographically. To be honest, I don't think the US government thought the Cuban Revolution was even possible. However, the imperialists would learn from that revolution and have today in essence made it impossible to have success through guerrilla warfare. It was successful once, but there is a high doubt it will ever be successful again.

I think you mean the '70s. Here in the US there were groups like the Weather Underground and Symbionese Liberation Army.

The last time revolutionary guerrillas came from around the world and united was the International Brigades pretty much..
