Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos - Quote

I bought Naomi Klein's new book Fences And Windows today and I was browsing through the chapter about the Zapatista's when I came across this brilliant quote from Subcomandante Marcos describing himself.

Marcos is gay in San Francisco, black in South Africa, an Asian in Europe, a Chicano in San Ysidro, an anarchist in Spain, a Palestinian in Israel, a Mayan Indian in the streets of San Cristobal, a Jew in Germany, a Gypsy in Poland, a Mohawk in Quebec, a pacifist in Bosnia, a single woman on the Metro at 10PM, a peasant without land, a gang member in the slums, an unemployed worker, an unhappy student and of course, a Zapatista in the mountains.

And remember this one, his, too: "We are the voice of the unvoiced" (Somos la voz de los sin voz).

Also when Marcos commented on people who fight injustice throughout the world he said "We Are You".

I remember seeing a television program where they interviewed el Subcomandante Marcos . He spoke with such eloquence and intelligence. He was never at a loss for words. He seems like a person you could just talk to for hours and hours.

I'd really like to get his book Our Word Is Our Weapon but I cannot find it any book shop over here and no one in my family uses a credit card so I can't get it off the internet.

oh and jonlee anderson describes marcos as the new generation's CHE. i agree, although he is not as talked and freared as CHE was (and still is) i agree with jonlee on this one.

I like it, although I don't get the reference to "a Mohawk in Quebec". Which I think is the saddest part, since I'm canadian :(

I love that quote!! Subcommandante Marcos is brillitant. I've seen a few documentaries where hes interviewed or gives speaches (all on Free speach T.V. if anyone gets that) and hes wonderful in all.

I&#39;ll be throwing up a video soon where you can see Marcos in Quebec at OKA. But the reference is basic. The Mohawks are discriminated against and face genocide from Canadian people, on the part of the canadian government, even though the word Canada is a Mohawk word "pueblo" and they are the Original Peoples of canada.
