I love beer, I spent about a year working in a liquor store that had the largest selection in my state.
Whats everyones favorite? I'm actually a big fan of carlsburg, even though its not that great by many peoples standards, as an American i think its really great and you can sometimes actually get it on tap if you look hard enough for a really good bar. They had it all over the place when I was in NI and it was great
I just drank a bunch of Piraat beer tonight, which i think is a Belgian golden or pale ale, and it has an 11 percent alcohol content. Definitely the highest in any beer I've ever drank.
I also like Smithwicks ale, Chimay, Pranqster, and some more fruity beers such as Blue Moon and Shocktop.
What are other comrades into? Sorry for typos, im drunk and dont feel like proofreading for the moment, but will probably come back and fix them tommorow

I prefer bottom-fermented beer with preferably a strong and bitter taste, mostly from eastern and northern Germany and Czechia.
The only top-fermented beer I like is stout.
What I don't like are things like wheat bear and the stuff they drink at barmy events like the "octobre fest" or "beers" like Kölsch which in my area is usually referred to as cat piss.

German pils and helles in additon toCzech pils are my favorites. Easy to drink and not so bitter.
Guiness is great too, but its completly diffrent with a more creamy taste.

If you like Piraat, then check out Bush beer (also Belgian). Also really good, and 12% ;)
http://www.bier-index.nl/afbeeldingen/bush.jpg
Other then that I'd have to recommend La Chouffe, 'the leprechaun beer'
http://feryvanhemelryck.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/lachouffe.jpg
Edit: crap that's a big image
And for regular pils I usually go for Stella or Jupiler, wich are the most common Belgian pilses, though Carlsberg is also pretty good.

For every day lager drinking, I'll have Grolsch any time of the week. Other than that, I mostly like Belgian beers, particularly trappist or abbey dubbels and tripels. There are also lots of good ones like La Chouffe (mentioned by An Archist), Urthel, Gulden Draak, etc. I'll have a lambic too, but I know of only one place where I live where they serve good ones (as opposed to artificially sweetened fruit juice...). Almost all good Belgian beers are readily available here, which is good news for me and bad news for my wallet.
A pint of real ale is always good, but it's impossible to get here. A liquor store nearby does have some bottled versions of English ales, but it's not the same, most of them are filtered after all. Another store imports several beers from two micro-breweries from the USA, which are all fucking good.
As for cider, I haven't tried a good lot of it, except for the usual ice cold fizzy stuff. Which probably does just as good a job of getting people shitfaced, but it's not too satisfying. I think someone on here named some decent ciders for me once, but nobody buys, sells or drinks ciders here anyway, except for a few enclaves of aforementioned fizzy stuff (for expats and yuppies?).
What I don't like are things like wheat bear and the stuff they drink at barmy events like the "octobre fest" or "beers" like Kölsch which in my area is usually referred to as cat piss.
People never really appreciate perfectly fine beers from their own countries. It's just like Belgians and Brits who only drink lager, Americans who think that all micro-brewed beer is piss, or Dutch people who only drink Heineken. Why?

While I didn't keep notes or do any real tasting I do remember it was slightly nutty with a less hoppy taste than I had expected with little in the way of aftertaste. While it wasn't bad there wasn't much special about it. It was better, however, than some of their selection (Greene King IPA, for example, which tastes like bovine micturation).

A Dutchie dissing Heineken? Has the world gone topsy-turvy?
For fun reference, there's a beer that's called " 't zelfde " Wich means 'the same', so you can order "the same". It's not special or anything.
And Geueze and Lambic beers are indeed quite good, but they taste a bit special and they're a 'love it or hate it' kinda beer.

I'm usually unimpressed by the drinks from the "family artois" (as their advertising had it) but this was exceptional. On that note:
It's nearly that time of year when my locals will start stocking this particular delight:
http://www.beerbarrels2u.co.uk/ContentManagement/eShop-Product-Images/1169logo-harveys-xxxx-old-ale.gif
It's a rich, dark ale perfect for winter which had a damn good year in 2007 (last year, however, was far less fantastic). If you ever find yourself in a Harvey's pub and see this on tap give it a go, you'll thank me (unless, again, it was like last years batch upon which opinions are more divided).
If you don't fancy trekking out down here for that though, there are bottled examples of some of the brewery's finest. Including this, a particular favourite:

If I could, I'd move to the UK, purely for the ability to drink real ale every day.I will say that there are some pubs in the UK which are very very good for real ale. My recommendations are Coopers Tavern in Burton (midlands), because i live in that town. Its amazing how they make standard real ales taste miles better than anywhere else. There are obviously better pubs elsewhere though.
