"Iran and Venezuela plan to stand up against "imperialist" foes by strengthening bilateral cooperation on a range of issues, including nuclear power, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday."

"Expansion of Tehran-Caracas relations is necessary given their common interests, friends and foes," Ahmadinejad said after a meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart President Hugo Chavez, according to Iran's semiofficial FARS news agency."

"
Chavez reiterated the goal: "Tehran and Caracas should help revolutionary nations through further expansion and consolidation of their ties."
Venezuela announced a new agreement with Iran for a joint geological study in the South American country's Andean belt, the state-run ABN news agency said.

"Chavez highlighted bilateral projects already under way, including the construction of ethanol plants in Venezuela, and gas exploration in Iran by Venezuela's state-run oil company.
On Saturday, Chavez hinted of future projects as well.
The Venezuelan president said he aims to build a "nuclear village" with Iranian help in his country, according to Iran's Press TV. The details of such a plan were unknown.
Chavez backed Iran's claims that its nuclear ambitions are for peaceful purposes.
"There is not a single proof that Iran is building ... a nuclear bomb," Chavez said after the leaders met, according to Press TV. "Soon they will accuse us also of building an atomic bomb."
The visit was Chavez's eighth to Iran, and the first since Ahmadinejad's disputed re-election."

Chavez's support for Ahmadinejad is characteristic of the line of thought "the enemy of my enemy is my friend". Ahmadinejad's opponent wouldn't have brought much change, but he would've lead Iran in a more socialist direction including the nationalization of oil. The only reason Chavez supports him is because he's anti-US.

I think anything that weakens U.S power and influence in the world should be supported and anything that strengthens the creation of a multipolar world should be supported as well.

Both Venezuela and Iran refuse to kowtow to the U.S global hegemony or the current world political and economic system put in place by the U.S and supported by the global financial corporate elite.

Anything that strengthens the front to destroy the current world system and weaken U.S power I would support.

Genuine environmentalists and the local communities in that part of the Andes should unite to oppose the exploitation of that region.

Chavez and Almadinejad's brinksmanship is unsound and dishonest as it attempts to gamble against an aggressive and dangerous foe at the expense of their own people and natural resources.

Pretty bad, It strengthens that idiotic notion that American imperialism is the only enemy the world has. And alliances with the most disgusting dictators on the planet are perfectly justified as long as they oppose US hegemony.

I have a little task for everyone that supports this notion. Subscribe to the Amnesty International news feed; and take a look at the systematic human rights abuses that arrive daily from Iran and places like Iran. It makes Guantanemo look like a picnic.

We are supposed to be uniting unconditionally with the oppressed peoples of the world. Not with their oppressors.

I think it is the most dangerous enemy. It creates a lot of wars, coups, killings and torture.

U.S hegemony also maintains and supports the current exploitative world economic, financial and trading structures.

If one can support USSR, I don't see any reason why shouldn't support Iran as well. That is my position.

Remember, weakening of U.S influence is a victory for left wing forces.

Both need support of each other in my view as both are targeted by USA.

More allies the better for both of them.

Both are encircled by hostile U.S military bases.

They need to cooperate with each other against U.S pressure.

The opponent is a neoliberal like the guerrilla-turned-neoliberal president of Nicaragua.

I am worried that if countries targeted by U.S don't cooperate and unite, U.S will isolate them and pick them off one by one and annihilate their regimes or dismember their states.

Those regimes that are taking a stand against the hegemonic policies of U.S and against current world order will be demoralised and give up the stuggle.

That is my worry.
