Who's in for singing about swords and dragons in an opera voice? Do you like choirs that make the catholic cathedrals blush? What about blistering guitar solos that in their speed and complexity twist the very fabric of space and time? What about gigs that can sometimes include symphony orchestras (Rhapsody...) Generally taken you must LOVE epic theatrics in this genre.
I think I just got high listening legendary steel anthems about martyred warriors. :)
My favourites include:
Stratovarius
Nightwish
Rhapsody (fucking best band ever!)
Luca Turilli and his Dreamquest
Symphony x
Any symphonic brothers here?
Here's the most epic solo battle between Jens Johansson (keyboard) and Timo Tolkki (guitar)
Pure orgasm that one.

At the end some drumming by Jörg Michael
EDIT: Ah! Why is music so perfect? I came while watching this most heroic solo-compilation of my two most favourite bands!

Yikes! That's bloody 'orrible:
"diddley-diddley-diddley-diddle-diddle-dee-dee-waaaaah!" That's not music, it's fret-wankery!
Besides, aren't songs about kings and martyred warriors a little bit, um, proto-fascist?

It is talent worthy of kings! "You have not honored your king until you have composed 72-hour ballad in his honor." - 101 rules of power metal

No, because the heroes and warriors are fighting for the good of the land. You must remember that moral and ethics are radically simplified in fantasy worlds. When fighting against devils and primordials it is not healthy to be too picky on the good guys.

Yes, but ethics are radically simplified by fascists as well - and all their heroes are fighting for the good of the (father/mother)land. Meanwhile, devils and primordials are really just the propaganda tools of those who seek to demonize and dehumanise their enemies.

Rule 79: 79. If you are U.S. American, you probably aren't actually a power metal band. Sing about tanks, or something.
