View Full Version : Who is the greatest living Leftist theorist?

spiltteeth

Although a bit intellectually mastabutory and scattered, mainly because of his ideas of how certain kinds of dissent actually strengthens capitalism, which I feel is a message many leftists have not learned, I'm going to say Zizek.

Bob Avakian. His glorious theoretical contributions to the living and breathing science of Marxism will surely lead the working class towards salvation.

Part of me thinks that revolutionary theorists are a bit like great painters or authors, they're appreciated to the fullest after their passing. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

And the quality of the responses in this thread says all you need to know about the current state of communist intellectuals in the world today

Part of me thinks that revolutionary theorists are a bit like great painters or authors, they're appreciated to the fullest after their passing. Maybe I'm wrong, though.I think that usually its the other way around - revolutionary theorists aren't vilified until they're dead. Either that or they actually do something

Adam Smith is one of the greatest left philosophs I have ever heard about, his theories will surely lead the proletariat into starvation!

That's because he used to be a Liberal. He has of course since adopted Marxism-Leninism.

I would have to also throw Perry Anderson's name into the ring, his articles are quite in depth and influential.

How would that be opportunism? It was a theoretical change in his own stance. If anything he worked less with political organizations after abandoning liberalism.

I don't see the point of such a comment.

Zizek is cool as far modern theorists go. David Harvey is a cool guy, also.

Yea, I love David Harvey. There's a decent youtube interview with Perry Anderson :www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjTKsRfVM9Q

Boy, only 2 names. I'm surprised no one's picked Negri.

However, after careful consideration, I'm changing my answer to Rosa.

Now it is interesting you use the term oppurtunism. Before being in the Liberal Party, he was in Communist Party of Slovenia.

Andrew Kliman. Even if he is a Hegelphile.
Though being the best living socialist theorist is not much of an achievement (though 'Reclaiming Marx's Capital' is).

He speaks the truth. Have you never read his "I am a socialist, Your a socialist" or his famous "Chicken noddle soup for the Communist heart"? They are classics!

I would imagine it doesn't say anything. This isn't a thread of discussing but listing.
