Land and Freedom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114671/) by Ken Loach is brilliant if you haven't seen it

I've also recently seen a good 6 part documentary on it. PM me if you want a link to download it. But it is a big file.

There are several interesting documentaries of various political persuasions, some of which were made at the time of the war.

Of dramatic treatments probably Ken Loach's film is the best, but also of interest are Libertarias (Spain, 1996), El espíritu de la colmena (Spirit of the Beehive Spain, 1973) and Behold a Pale Horse (USA, 1962.)
