Ok, so I was recently on a 6-cum-8 hour bus trip (and will be again, going back in a few days). I had my new laptop out to dull the boredom. While I was on I uploaded music from a CD I had in my bag. As I was listening, it seemed like it skipped every time we went over a bump. Now my question is - am I scratching my hard drive or something? Is this causing permanent damage? Do I have to stop using my laptop in moving vehicles? I spent way more money on this computer than I should have, but I need a computer, and the idea of it being damaged is terrifying.

Most laptop hard drives have a sensor that tells the drive to park the read/write head if it detects acceleration, this could cause your music to skip, but wouldn't harm the drive, you might be able to check if your computer has this by looking at the harddrive properties.

I doubt it's doing anything to your hard drive. Also, if your uploading music and listening to it at the same time it's likely to skip, regardless of bumps. Well at least from my experience anyways. Point is, I don't think you should be too worried, but you also can never be to careful when it comes to your computer, especially a laptop. Shit is hard/expensive to fix.
