I am reading a very good small book by Bertrand Russell called "Has Man a Future?" about the consequences of a nuclear holocaust and the road to disarmament. He proposed as the only potential solution against a likely possibility of world wide conflagration (since the secret of how to extract energy from an atom is out, never to be taken back again for the end of time-- and that could be a long time!!!) might just be in creating a one-world international government.
It's a pretty interesting book, basically out of print, but, if you can find a copy, do check it out.

BR was best when it came to the peace issue. His ''History of Philosophy'' is full of red herrings, better off reading Hegel.

I think i've heard of that book but i've never been able to lay my hands on a copy of it. I haven't read anything good in a while. Hopefully, it'll save me.

i have that book also Peacenicked. Got into it a few chapters and then got sidetracked. Wasn't Russell a Guild Socialist? Part of the Fabians, (which I know very little about) I Like the nuke book because the issue is still of utmost important today and..... forever.
Yeah, Red Circle, it is basically out of print. But is out in limited editions. and can probably be found in a library though!

i havent dwelled deeply into betrand russell, but a while back i read pieces of one of his essays, in which he talks about money. in it, he speaks badily of capitalism, but also speaks with semi-harsh words towards the left as well. if i remember correctly, he said that a system that is based on money and the distribution of it is not the way to go. i would quote it, but i have recentley moved and i cant remember the name of the book i read it from.

here is a link to a reasonable short bio. http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/TUrussell.htm
I read Russell's ''Future of Man'' but the only thing I remember is that I liked it.
