Yes, read the Manifesto. If you have questions about it, ask them here for a variety of opinions.
Also Value, Price and Profit and Wage-Labour and Capital are good introductions to Marx, I think.

Manifesto is great to cut one's teeth on. Gives a great defining way of looking at things.
I like A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift.
Many of the founding fathers of America have some great books to read to.
But if you want something current, easily read with great writing skills, pick up anything by Howard Zinn. He might come right out and say he is a communist, probably because of the stigma but he tells it like it is, and how it should be.

I just bought Das Kapital, and The Communist Manifesto.
When i saw Manifesto i was like "is this it?? i thought it was bigger!!!"
is it really this small? i mean its only 142 pages. its like f451.
oh and by the way, ive heard of him but never really knew who he is. Who is Friedrich Engels?

its very small, its basically a propaganda piece, not a philosophical volume
I would also suggest Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-Tung (aka Little Red Book), The Essential Works of Lenin, and something modern and contextual, such as Killing Hope by William Blum.
