Hello, Comrades! In the past, I've asked for your help on school related stuff and you guys have always been quite helpful, so I was hoping you guys would help again!

In my English class, I have to write a 13 page research paper on a question of my choosing; however there are some guidelines:

1. the question can't be a simple yes or no
2. the answer can't be an established fact
3. a reasonable argument needs to be made in response to this question based on researched evidence and expert opinions (in other words, the question cannot be speculative and cannot appeal to personal beliefs for an answer.)

I'd like to use this as a way to learn about something that I don't know as much about as I'd like. I'd like to maybe write about something like the Spanish Civil War or the Black Panthers Party, but I'm having trouble coming up with a question. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance, and sorry if this isn't the right place for this thread!

A possibly question would be: Was the BPP more successful in its struggle for black liberation/equality than the civil rights movement (Martin Luther King)?
Reading tip on the subject: sections of Peter Gelderloos "How Non-Violence protects the State".

Write about socialist industrial unionism. All the material you need for that topic is at http://www.slp.org

Try this one:

What came first, the chicken or the egg?

P.S. : I would advise you not to choose a question on which your teacher might have a strong personal view; that can affect your grades. I mean the BPP and that kind of stuff. How about the role of Napoleon in the French Revolution? I mean that you should ask whether he carried it forward or destroyed it. Or maybe you could do your research on the origin of guerrilla warfare.

if you do write about a historical event or something, make sure you're specific about what your purpose is. Don't just write about the Spanish Civil War in general, write about what role foreign intervention played in the conflict, or how the social revolution in catalonia and aragon deteriorated. I've made this mistake before, when I tried to do a paper about the history of cryptography when all I really wanted to talk about was Alan Turing and the Enigma Machine - it was a disaster.

So my only advice is be specific on the topic.
