I don't like this thread. Not because it is Mohammed, in fact I wouldn't like it even if it was Jesus. The thing is that we have to understand why people turn to religion, that is the concrete material reasons on why people need to believe in a higher power. Through understanding that, we also can understand that by putting up offensive posts (to the religious observer), we are just adopting a petit-bourgeois attitude towards religion.

I would suggest that this thread is deleted. Not only it is immature, but it is also offensive to people that happen to be both Muslims and leftists.

Really? Because I'm pretty sure I used to be a really ardent Christian, and spent the majority of my life going to church. I know enough about religion to understand why it's here. Doesn't change the fact that I think the idea of congregating to read a book supposedly written by supernatural beings is incredibly absurd and silly.

Many people here do, it's not like this is all we do here on revleft. If so it would be about as useful or as lacking in usefulness as 4chan etc. If someone is offended by this there can be a serious, civil, tolerant discussion about it. Because although some my find it insulting, or mocking, it still addresses actual beliefs held by said religious group. It's not racist but a critique of said religion. Granted I may be wrong, but if it is just another superstition that is held in Islam, how is it racist? Because people who believe in talking snakes think it is silly a well (rather hypocritically I might add)? I don't see how. Assuming that it is actually a belief held in Islam and not just some slur against Muslims. To my knowledge it is the former, but I will remove it if it is the latter.
