I've put this here as opposed to events because this forum generally gets more attention and I also want to encourage discussion too.

The English Defence League, that motley crew of far-right activists and racist football hooligans, is popping up for an evening out in Birmingham again this Saturday the 5th. They have been in Birmingham before, as they are focusing on this area with a large Asian/Muslim population to try and stir up ethnic tensions.

I'm sure most frequenters of this forum have seen the news articles and threads here on the events of their last outing to England's second city, and my opinion is that because they were beaten so badly last time they want to come back to save face.

I am quite concerned about the lack of attention this group are getting because I think a) this shows a return of fascists to the streets and b) It gives a good opputunity for a show of strength from anti-fascists. I do not support UAF but you saw the confidence anti-fascists in that organisation got from the clear victory that was the last events in Birmingham.

As such I think it is vital for anti-fascists to get up (or down) to Birmingham this Saturday for the demonstration which begins at 6pm to show support for the community of Birmingham in combatting this lot. Plus its good craic to hear nasty geezers shouting 'Why the fuck are you running away?' while he himself runs away from the impending charge of young people.

I don't want to do a call out without giving some details so:

There wil of course be people down there through adverts on facebook and through groups of anti-fascists (not just UAF, I assure you). if you go down egt in contact with someone else goign down there through your party, organisation or any contacts you have in various areas of the far-left scene. Do not go alone, bare in mind if you live far away you will have a train fare to pay which is reasonably substantial (I think its only £10 return from London) and make sure you don't come back alone too!

As I said I think attendance would be good and the experience of chasing them off the streets again will be valuable especially during a period when electoral gains are making the BNP and other fa-right types more confident.

Remember, no personal details etc in this thread, discuss anything through PMs if you must but much better email, real life, MSN, mobiles, etc.

Sorry to slightly go off topic but i thought this was quite interesting/relevant:

Police have criticised a mob of 200 Asian youths after they attacked officers in Luton who had been drafted into to protect them from extreme right wing protestors.

I say the EDL/BNP will make a field day out of this.

Good luck in Birmingham.
