SIPTU says one of its members has been treated in hospital after being injured on a picket line at Coca-Cola in Dublin.

It claims the man was injured when a car drove through the picket at the company's Finglas plant.

The union is escalating its strike at Coca-Cola operations around the country in a row regarding the outsourcing of jobs.

Just goes to show what the strikers are dealing with. According to some reports, up to 40 strikebreakers have been brought in from the UK in one dispute at the MTL Terminal at Dublin Port.

As usual the lackey government are very quiet as their "divine" foreign direct investment attempts to shaft Irish workers and move elsewhere to exploit others.

Coca Cola has claimed it has obtained a High Court injunction against SIPTU members in relation to pickets at its facilities around the country.

The injunction is intended to prevent union members from blocking other workers who wish to pass though their lines at the company's distribution centres in Dublin, Cork, Galway, Waterford and Tipperary.

SIPTU members have been mounting the pickets since last week because of the company's plans to make 130 workers redundant and outsource their jobs.

Managing Director of Coca Cola Ireland, Gokhan Bilgic said he respected workers' rights to strike, but only if they followed the rules.

“We certainly want to ensure health and safety of all our employees including the ones picketing,” he said.

“Unfortunately this has not been obtained so far, despite talks with SIPTU.”

“They have repeatedly ignored our request to adhere to official strike regulations”

“They are walking in front of cars, stopping them more than necessary and in some cases they are also abusing and intimidating employees who want to get in and out from work.”
