i dont know about what everyone else here likes but i happen to love all of the books by anne rice that i've ever picked up. the ones i like the most are memnoch the devil and all the stories of the mayfair witches oh and vittorio the vampire of course. they rocked. but alot of her stuff just makes you ponder life in a deeper way. what does everyone else think of her?

Memnoch the devil is one of my all time favs.
I didn't think much of The Witching Hour, but all the rest are great.

I have just began reading the Vampire croncicles. so far I am reading "the queen of the damned"
Does "Memnoch the devil" go in order with the other books or is it independent to the story?

Memnoch the devil cames after Tale of the body thief I think, I didn't read them in proper sequence unfortunately. It's independant, you don't need to read the preceeding books in order to get the story.
It's Lestats last chapter, so far.

i didnt read them in order but it didnt all make sense when i read it like that. tale of the body thief is after queen of the damned and then memnoch the devil, the vampire armand, merrick, and blood and gold. they are pretty sequencial. i just finished reading them all and they rocked but its way better if read in order, its kills less surprises.

I've only read Interview with the Vampire, i have to admit it fucked me up a bit, got me thinking of perfection, immortality, all that is wrong with humanity and myself. I think that book is partly to blame for my current, slightly depressed state of mind, but it is a good book.
I loved it, I loved the way Anne portrayed Louis' suffering and I think Brad Pitt conveyed it well in the film. I was also surprised at how evil Cruise could be but I don't think the film character was as comlex as the book's.

I agree the acting in IWV was good, and the casting quite inspired. I thought Brad Pit would suck and Tom Cruise too.
I rate Brad Pit quite highly now however, even if he's a pretty boy ponce...
I'll warn you now, don't bother with QotD movie, disgraceful is all I can say. The music was ok but.

when i first saw interview with the vampire i was blown away, it followed the book so well. i was hoping for the same with queen of the damned, i was sadly mistaken. it is hard enough to turn ONE book into a good movie but two? that is impossible as QotD so graciously showed the world. but the books were kick ass.

I'm almost through with Memnoch the Devil. I thought the part about Roger was a little too long, although the chapters about the revelations and that mad trip to Jerusalem to see Christ walking through the streets with the cross on his back was utterly, utterly mad. Great book, all in all.

I've just finished Memnoch the Devil. Phew.
The strongest message in the book has to be the fact that Christianity is a largely confused religion (no offence to any Christians here!); it is inconsistent in it's theory and doctrine, it encourages and condones slaughter of all who oppose it (including other [i]Christians), and draws it's strongest influence from idol worship and Pagan symbolism.
That Veronica's Veil inspired the deaths of Armand, Mael, and other vampires not only imparts a strong sense of fatalism in Christianity, but also brings to mind the greatness of it's futility.

I've read up to Blood & Gold (albeit in the wrong order and not including Memnoch the Devil) and I think they're fantastic books. As well as teling a good story Rice is superb at creating belivable characters, and some of the philosophising is god in iteslf. I'd like to see a bit more of some of the lesser vampires, however, so far the stories seem to revolve around Lestat, Louis, Marius and Armand, it would be nice to see what became of vampires like Jesse and get to know more of the history of Khayman and Marharet.
In regards the Queen of the Damned, if you watch the deleted scenes on the DVD you'll find it's a film that suffered a lot in the editing...there's about three scenes explaining who the ancient one's are as well as an alternative story for Jesse which is more faithfull to the book...
