Yesterday in Dublin saw a huge surge of support for the 70 Dockworkers who over the past few weeks have been on strike in order to get a fair deal regarding their redundancy payments .

They mounted the action when the company withdrew from talks and imposed nine compulsory redundancies.

One employee on today's march said she was being offered just €4,000 redundancy pay after 11 years working with the company.

SIPTU is vowing to step up its action against Peel Ports if the company does not agree to enter discussions.

From the Independant:

Up to 500 people marched along the south quays on the Dublin (http://www.independent.ie/topics/Dublin) docks in support of the workers who are in dispute with Marine Terminals Ltd (http://www.independent.ie/topics/Marine+Terminals+Ltd.) (MTL) over compulsory redundancies.

The marchers, along with trade union representatives and politicians, started at three points in the city and then converged outside the offices of the company. It is the third demonstration of its kind in the eight-week dispute.
