"The mass production of a cultural project robs it of its ability to rebel against the very culture in which it is produced."
-- Michael Eric Dyson

WHAT IS 365BLACK?

At McDonald's®, we believe that African-American culture and achievement should be celebrated 365 days a year — not just during Black History Month. That's the idea behind 365Black.com. It's a place where you can learn more about education, employment, career advancement and entrepreneurship opportunities, and meet real people whose lives have been touched by McDonald's. Plus, you can also have a chance to win exciting once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. So make sure you visit often — you just might get inspired.

Like the unique African Baobab tree, which nourishes its community with its leaves and fruit, McDonald's has branched out to the African-American community nourishing it with valuable programs and opportunities. http://www.365black.com/365black/index.jsp

At least tell us what you think about it too :[ I have to start the discussion?

Anyways, yes, this is bullshit, what do they mean with 'opportunity' anyways?
Why are they telling about the frontpage guy that he's a radio personality now? - Frying meat at some fast food restaurant surely made him a radio personality!

It's not an opportunity to work at their damn 'restaurant', but rather a cheap job for students.

African-American culture and achievement

Hahahaha.

Well I put the quote at the top which I think sums it up nicely. It's cultural assimilation and commodification, by incorporating black culture into capitalist dominance it lowers the potential of such culture to be a force for change and gives a (false) excuse for structural discrimination; "how can capitalism be racist, mcdonalds employs black people doesn't it".

It sounds to me like you're upset about this type of action, when in reality in capitalist society everything is treated as such, and everything is "assimilated" and "commodified". I do not think that these types of things happen intentionally in every case (certainly there are plenty of cases where it is intentional, but I do not agree with treating every case as such), and chalk it up to the fact that everyone is alienated due to living in a society that treats everything as a value relation, and because of that we get campaigns like this, which are a very blatant representation of the alienation capitalist society causes.

I think it's more important to point out that these types of things are due to alienation in capitalist society and not by the actions of a few corporate marketing thugs; in this way, the problem is exposed not as the actions of a few individuals, but as a symptom of the entire capitalist system and thus to do away with such "commodification" we must do away with capitalism as a whole.

This is frankly, an insult to every oppressed people. It´s the worst form of humiliation, when a capitalist organization comes to your already ravaged community, only to bring you all forms of diseases. And shitty, union-less jobs. Then they try to `celebrate´ your culture? I´m definitely not lovin´ it.

This so ridiculous I can't actually tell if it is serious. "Deeply Rooted in the Community!" Of course McDonalds is deeply rooted, they got fucking branches everywhere and it is one of the only places that isn't going out of business.

All the branding in the world can't make their food not taste like shit.
