In Oliver Todd´s introduction to Camus´ The Rebel, he suggests that The Plague "suggested...a link between Nazism and communism". Anyone get that?? I don´t see the link at all?? FoH and the other Camus fans please post...

I just ordered The Plague. I'll give my interpretation of the story after i read it.

I missed that completely. I saw it as a metaphor for how we let sh1t creep up on us becuz we collectively pretend like it's not that bad. How in the beginning they thought it couldn't be plague; then they assumed it'd be over soon, etc. I could see a relation to Nazism, or to Stalinism but not any kind of inherent "link" though.
The Rebel is one of the best books I've ever read though.

I'm currently in the process of reading it...it's fascinating so far.

I read it in a Political Theory class, had this bad ass professor who explained really well. He doesn't have a very flattering opinion of revolutions though.

They made me study "La Peste" in high school and they rammed it down our throats that it was about faschism. Dumb thing is they didn't bother to explain faschism or communism.

That sucks. Skools tend to lean towards propaganda every now and then.

I finished The Plague about two weeks ago.
I think the book is about how people deal with an extreme lack of freedom.
This novel can easily be applied to fascism.
But I do not know how this would link fascism and communism together.

I thought that was the understood metaphor, Nazis that is, that the problem was still in the wood work?
