I can't really watch vids on my compyter right now, so I apologize for not responding to the points they make.

However, I believe marijuana can be taxed heavily.

If it were legalized, less people would grow pot than those who grow tomoatoes nowadays.

Once Phillip Morris and RJ Reynolds begin marketing it everyone will pay $15 for a pack of Marlboro Greens or Camel Turkish Herb.

The thing about marijuana is that it's a weed. It can be grown easily - in the woods, in your yard, in your home. It's not as difficult to cultivate as say tobacco. That has a big part to do with its illegality.

Another factor in the criminalization of marijuana, at least in the States, was racism.

http://www.trails.com/list_5189_was-marijuana-made-illegal-usa.html

In the 1920s and 1930s, marijuana was attacked by spreading fears of falling of collapsing barriers between blacks and whites. The federal narcotics division leader, Harry Anslinger, initiated a campaign to put marijuana at the center of interracial dating and dancing, citing marijuana's popularity in racially mixed jazz clubs.

Prejudice against Mexicans was also exploited by connecting Mexican immigrants--representing cheap labor during the Depression--to the marijuana scene and by renaming hemp as marijuana.

I tried, but it was shake and I injured myself.

I see no reason it wouldn't be taxed as most people would prefer to just go buy some than buy equipment and dry it and all that other stuff.

What I don't like is that in California, they are going about this in the least politically useful way. They've made it into a tax issue and possible source of revenue. I would be much happier about it becoming legal if it was tied into a fight to undermine the entire "war on drugs" ideology. Seeing pot as a possible state revenue is a poor way to go about it when the real issue to me is the criminalization of youth and the creation of a huge prison system based on locking up 19 year old drug dears and a police force given carte blanche to harass any young person of color they want to.

Regardless of weather Cannabis should be Legal or Illegal. Those so-called Communists that currently smoke Cannabis in countries where the herb is criminalised, are usually directly supporting prostitution, crime and servere exploitation.

Nevermind communists who drink beer or eat chocolate...

It's a discussion that I've had with foreign comrades over and over again, and this argument comes up every time. It usually shows a lack of good arguments, so instead, they start applying standards to cannabis that they do not apply to any other products made in the capitalist system.

Theres a a big difference between supporting crime and prostitution compared to supporting Capitalism.

It's practicly impossable to avoid supporting Capitalism. Where-as its much easier to directly avoid supporting crime and prostitution.

The reason I said "Communists" and not "Anarchists" is because I dont naturally expect anarchists to care about the forced exploitation of women.

It is impossible to avoid capitalism, but capitalism also creates the conditions which forces many into crime and prostitution. Capitalism is profit driven, and profit driven crime (most crime) is directly caused by capitalist system. ( members of the lower class seeking to succeed when the legal means of success in this system are unavailable to them)

Prostitution? You're right, you can avoid supporting prostitution. But supporting capitalism inherently supports crime (also, I'm more against businessmen/businesswomen than the petty high school drug dealers that people I know buy from). By the way, would you call a communist who drinks coca-cola products a "so-called communist" because they're buying from a company that has murdered union leaders and commit atrocities, like all major capitalists have?

Edit: And boycott on pot would be ridiculously pointless work.

What, when it comes to the black market you are a consumerist?

According to George Bush, we're supporting Terrorism by consuming drugs.

Well, I also buy bootleg DVDs from guys on the street corner - sorry folks, the gang war was my fault - I just really didn't want to pay full price to see "Terminator 4" - that would have been a crime.

Most crime and prostitution is simply economic activity that the ruling class disapproves of for various reasons. What difference does it make in real terms whether I give my money to InBev, Phillip Morris or the local dealer?

They ban hemp too. William Randolph Hearst had a lot to do with why it is illegal. Hemp was a threat to the paper industry, which relied on logging. Hemp by contrast is much more environmentally friendly, requires few pesticides, and grows very fast.

Marijuana as a drug being outlawed , had a lot do with prejudices toward "social deviance". Remember that this time there was a huge Prohibitionist movement toward alcohol so of course that puritanical madness extended to other drugs.
