Manifesto

This was the only place I could think of to put this so sorry if I am wrong and just move it or trash it.

Recently I have been getting these little red bugs in my house that have a long body with a shell kinda like a millipede but I am pretty sure its not and like 1 cm long n I am guessing a young form. They are not mites. I cannot find out what they are on the internet and need to know how to get rid of them.

Uhhh no its more like a blood red and they don't have those antennas. They do have like that thing in the back but its a lot smaller. What more of a description do you need?

To be honest there are so many insects that can come into your home that it's impossible to narrow it down from a simple text description.

They could be anything from centipedes (http://entomology.unl.edu/images/centipedes/gardncnt.jpg) to bed bugs (http://bedbugger.files.wordpress.com/2006/10/common_bed_bug_lifecycle.jpg).

How many legs do they have? Where do you find them? Are they fast moving or slow?
Well I do not remember how many legs they had. They moved slow and they have mostly been in my room. But thats hard to say. And no they are not bed bugs or centipedes (thank god) a close description is like a red small roly poly (did not curl up or anything) with a longer body.

Now that I think about it they looked worm-like.

I don't know what state your room is in, but I suggest you clean and vacuum it anyway.

If possible you should take a picture of them and upload it.

I'll try but they are hard to find.

Use a dichotomous key:

See where that gets you. If it's in your house almost certainly somebody has described it. You should be able to get reasonably close if you catch one and look at it closely.

It is possible that you have discovered a new species, scientists find them every day.

Depending on the stage of development, for a non-specialist to correctly ID most bugs they aren't familiar with down to species level is really, really difficult.

I think you should content yourself with family or sub-family level, which happens to correspond with most of our common names for bugs.

Well then they're dead because since I killed those ones I found, I have not been able to find them again. But since they were most likely young there is bounsd to be more.

Finally found another one. It appears to have been a millipede still not sure although small and I think that may be their full size since I have yet to see an adult (bigger) one. It just seemed rather shiny for a millipede I would upload a picture but my camera phone is crap and the little bastard got away in a shag carpet:sneaky: so if I find it again I will take some better pictures other a red blob.

I know the fuckers you're talking about...I hate them.

They're not any worse than then the spider crickets or the popper-jumpers though...they're fucking horrible.
