Is it any good, in your opinion?
I have it, but can't, for the life of me, figure it out.

Read the manual

I'll probably get it eventually but I'll wait for a few patches or an expansion pack first. I wasn't a fan of HoI2 so I can wait

I was a big fan of HOI2 and still play it. There are lots of mods which make it still an interesting game.

I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like it or would find it either boring or too complicated. But they're really missing out on what I think is the best strategy game I've played. Yes, there is a learning curve, but you need to start with the tutorials and battlescenarios first. Then the best country to start off as is probably the Soviet Union because you have the longest buildup time and don't have to worry about a navy.

As to HOI3, I was kind of disappointed with EU3 and some of the things like the 3D map, and Paradox games generally get better once they age a little - more patches and more user-created mods. I might get it in six months or a year or so. But there's still plenty of content for HOI2 - more nations to play as, and more mods to try.

I think its a great game even though i only played the demo. Too bad the demo is so short. The great thing about HoI3 is the fact the you can leave some of the jobs for the AI. Like when you play Germany you give the comander of the western theater the job of defending the sigfridline and pharhaps advance towards Paris if posible (the comander on the western theater will also control your sea units such as uboats, which would have been very micromanaging if you should have to control them yourself). While you control some units in the eastern theater which you use to blitz through Poland. The rest of the units of the eastern theater will be under AI control defending what you have and what your gaining when blitzing through Poland. Give the AI control of trade is nice too, maybe tech if you do not have any spesific goals. But diplomacy would be best if you controled yourself. Sometime it can feel like your not playing the game but just leaveing everything to the AI, but you avoid the heavy micromanaging. The additional number of provinces give lots of more opportunities which is great too.

The paradox plaza forum is a great place to learn how to play.

HoI2 is AWESOME but i heard some bad things about HoI3 i think it was just complaints about too many privinces this time haha.

but a REALLY good mod for HoI2 is Mod34 Revolutions (http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277121)
so far i have only played as the SU on it but it is awesome.
in fact, im going to fight out the spanish civil war right now.

I will probably end up getting HoI 3 off of TPB some day.
