View Full Version : Soccer and Rightwing Groups?
*Red*Alert
15th August 2009, 03:06
I've read a lot about the BNP and other fascists attempting to convert football (soccer) hooligans to the extreme right wing of political action and have always wondered what makes them so attractive as targets?
Obviously, there is a certain lumpen element that would be easily lured into becoming foot soldiers for fascist groups, and the fact that football is generally enjoyed by the majority of the working class as a sport which originated in working class areas.
I'm sure there must be Left-wing hooligans as well, and have saw mention of them during my reading up on the subject but they never seem to be expanded upon or covered extensively.

i always assumed that the right wing divide was there already, and the right wingers rallied around certain teams. i thought they were nazis before they were hooligans.

Not necessarily. Most people who get involved in hooliganism aren't politicised, although I imagine from their upbringing they would be quiet reactionary and often racist.

There are fucking loads of left leaning supporters but I don't know about hooligans. AS Roma's hooligans were communists as were much of their support. However, the right has a much bigger presence on the terraces in Rome now. There are a few Greek clubs who are affiliated with Antifa too which Fuserg9 (G9 stands for gate 9 who are Antifa hooligans)
would know more about.
As for why football fans are targeted by the right i'm not so sure. Some clubs throughout their histories have been directly involved in political affairs. Think of Celtic and Rangers, Barcelona and Catalan Nationalism, Livorno and the towns' communist leanings and that sort of thing.

It's called football.
I guess for right wing groups football hooligans may seem like good targets. They're predominatly white males who enjoy violence and have a gang mentality, who better to beat shit into people?

AmeriKKKan here
What European football teams have a notable traditional Communist/Socialist/Anarchist support base, and which ones have notable Fascist/Nazi/racist support bases?

Well probably the most left wing clubs in europe are Livorno and St Pauli.
Right wing clubs i guess teams like Lazio. Some of the polish teams have a pretty large racist contingent. Also Zenit in Russia, their manager actually said he would be happy to buy black players but the fans wouldn't have it.

Let's not Forget Standard Liege (yesyes, chauvinism) they're not that well-known, but they've got a really big fanbase and some dedicated antifa ultras, I ran into them a couple of times at antifa protests.

Hooligans are most of the times no politica!Dont care and much about politics, basically their only care is get drunk and break some shitz.. Hooligan arent real football fans, but some idiots passing their time... Its true that fascists try to get inside the fan culture and affect as many as they can, and they are growing, but on the other hand, antifa movement grows too!Numerous antifa- festivals, antifa brothers are met every day(especially now on vacations) gathering.
Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultras there is a subject on both politics and hooliganism

We are not antifa hooligans, we are antifa fans(more info here (http://www.gate9.com.cy/home/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89&Itemid=124)in english);) and we arent a greek club either, a cypriot one.In greece there is navajo antifa fans of Panachaiki competiting in 2nd division, who are antifa, there is White star Exarhion, the team of the place most riots start in greece, and is well known as the place which Anarchists and anti-authoritarians kinda "rule", and they are settled, and last its original of AEK Athens, ne of the biggest teams in greece, and an activa group, which competes in the Alerta (antira-antifa) tournament. There are lots of antifa groups, you can find most of them in there!

Its not chauvinism.Ultras Inferno rocks. Are absolutely great :) Worth searching about them in the net if you arent aware of them!

I know you are from Cyprus and support a Cypriot club, I just thought you would have known about the groups I was referring to in Greece which you did. Thankyou for the info.

In Ireland, we already have a sport know as Football and this is probably why Red Alert called it soccer. Its usually known as soccer over here.

What? You're claiming that Irish football is different to normal football, and they call normal football soccer in Ireland? I'd never heard that before.

Go raibh maith agat, a chara. I also didn't want to confuse any American/Candian comrades who read the thread.
Lots of interesting information in the thread, which I'll take a look at. I suppose the simplest reason is the willingness of hooligans (often lumpen proles) to be violent thus supplying the fash with muscle. I read somewhere that the BNP was trying to build connections with them and politicise hooligans but that they're having very limited success.
I'm no stranger to Ranger's bigotry, both among fans and hooligans, and I notice that many Unionists/Rangers fans on the internet are building contact with the BNP.

Argh, i know that, i been there several times for crying out loud. Still, could it be the reason that there called ASC?

ASC is a casual hooligan firm that was running during 80's i think and they were the most well known in scotland
as for right wing in ultra movement i can say that 80% ultra groups are right wing... I dont really find football fans a best base for understanding socialism to be honest due to fact that fans are mostly very easy doctrinated people
most of them are right wing because their mates on stand are right wing too... they get easily influenced and melted into mass... few bright exceptions are Brigate Autonome Livornesi and few groups in Greece and Spain
as for right wing and left wing groups the most well known nazi scum in europe are definitely SS Lazio fans.. after them Spartak Moscow fans are the biggest scum , if even not bigger then lazio... Spartak curve is full of nazis and boneheads , which almost all wear nazi symbolism , celtic crosses , scarfs with white pride logos etc.... not only them but lot of groups in Russia ... Dynamo Moscow , even CSKA , Zenit....
SS lazio fans are mostly monopolised behind the commercial group Irriducibili , who completely took over the curve... they are by far the most well known right wing group... salutations , and fascist symbolism is their everyday practice on away matches
Paris Saint-Germain fans are also well known right wing... although not declared , racism and neo-nazi symbolism was a common in their curve , and they had a famous bonehead sub-group boullogne boys , who were nazi skins and racist... they still keep to these traditions today
their Opposition is Olympic Marseille fans who are leftists , guevarist , tho they had few weird actions in past , and most of them arent trully leftist but posers , which is also a habbit common for football fans... They had a banner supporting kosovo independence in the past i think which i cant understand for someone who declares left to support nato-imperialist installation such as that one...
Chelsea is the club that had right-wing history esspecialy behind notorious Headhunters , but that is all past now , because you can see many different ethnicities on chelsea stadium today who are not bothered...
Polish fans are story for itself... All the main groups are right-wing...not any right-wing but fully declared racist scum.... "white power poland" "KKK" and celtic crosses , swastikas , and kkk people in hoodies can be found on their banners , flags , and t-shirts everywhere.... racist and boneheads are main base of most of polish fans... however there are groups from smaller towns who arent racist/bonehead/whateverscum , but nazism and racism is main fashion over there , and it comes for you to throw up when u see KKK and nazi symbolism in country which has probably the most experienced the horror and sickness of NAZI ideology
in Spain , Real Madrid is a club mostly supported by conservatives , Frankists , and somewhat right wing , it is a club that stands for monarchy , single spain etc...
as for left wing , there are some groups in sevilla fans who are left , Ossasuna is also left , Rayo Vallencano from Madrid is fully left, for others im not that informed , but there are lot of left groups in spain i think
Italy - left official and unofficial are : AS Livorno , SS Napoli , Atalanta and Genoa
Glasgow Celtic has some left-winged base , mostly known is Green Brigade which is anti-sectarian , and anti-racism group... Most of Celtic fans come from Catholic Irish population who were envolved with protestant Rangers fans in lot of sectarian violence , which caused many incidents including bombing and stabbing in Glasgow...
In Croatia , Dinamo Zagreb fans arent delcared boneheads , but they had some symbolism of that kind recently , and nazi-skins and similar scum is quite supported among them , and many boneheads are present on the curve even today
In Greece there are lot of anarchists present on football stands... They can be found supporting PAOK , Iraklis , AEK , AE Larissa , even Panathinaikos ... None of them are declared left , but great number of leftist are present in their curves , esspecialy Iraklis AEK and Larissa
well im kinda dry now and cant remember of more but those are the main i guess

Good post, but don't forget about Rangers in Scotland who are the right wing equivalent of Celtic.
In Ireland, Shamrock Rovers have been known in the past to have some racist followers.
