Please share your opinions--he's one of my favorite authors and wrote some of the best novels set in South Africa.

I'm assuming no one has then, in that case look up the name right now and buy his books if you see them.

I've only read his book, Cry, the Beloved Country and it was indeed wonderful. It was one of the only books that I've had to read for school that actually kept my attention. I also researched into his life and was quite impressed by his efforts to aid Black South Africans in their plight for equality in the society what was basically dominated (population-wise) by them.

He was truly a gem. I really admire him...

Too Late, The Phalarope is a favorite of mine--it's about the unfortunate social taboo of inter-racial love.

i read Cry, The Beloved Country a few months ago for my school academic decathlon team, and i thought it was a good book. the only thing i didnt like about it was the way Paton used the main characters brother (its been a while, and i cant remember the names). Paton used the brother to make it seem that people without the "touch" of religion, in this case christianity, can not do great things. thats the only thing i didnt like about the book, other than that, great book.

Paton was a pretty devout Episcopalian, but Cry the Beloved Country is purposely meant to have a biblical theme.
