Im reading it for english and I noticed that it has communist ideals of working for the good of humanity rather than just ones self and portrays landowners as opressive. It also mentions Marx and Lenin in one of the intercalary chapters.

A classic, but I'm not a huge Steinbeck fan. I feel he glamorizes the life of the working class particularly prostitutes, but he never thought their lives should be greatly improved. He was an escapist with his head in the clouds. I do like the Red Pony though.

True M, but his points were good and it awakened the mass to the ideal.
I love that book, it made me cry.

it was a great book, one of my personal favorites. I have also heard that a lot of the book relates to some of the bible. anybody heard this? im not sure if this is true myself, seeing as how im not well read in the bible.

It does have some connections to the Bible. Jim Casey is supposed to be the christ-figure (hence "J.C") and the dead baby floating down the stream is supposed to represent Moses. I think there is some symbolism with the Virgin Mary at the end but Im not sure. Ive barely ever read the bible so I know this info on the symbols from cliffs/spark notes.
