This is of course a farce. It was only a pretext to put her under house arrest to block her from contesting the proposed 2010 general elections in Myanmar.

Here is some background on her father:

Who really killed Aung San?

A recent release of classified documents from British Foreign office regarding the assasination of Aung San has prompted an investigation by BBC. BBC reported that the assasination plot was far more complicated then previously thought. WHO KILLED AUNG SAN?

Q: Who do you think really killed Bogyoke Aung San?

A: Who really killed Bogyoke Aung San was the British government. It was their plot.

Q: Why do you say that?

A: I suppose there were three reasons why he was killed.

Firstly, Bogyoke Aung San was the leader who could organise and unite the whole country so they were afraid of the whole of Burma uniting. This was the main reason.

Secondly, Bogyoke Aung San could reunite with the Communist Party of Burma. They were worried about that too.

And finally, they supposed that they could handle Burma more easily if they removed him.

These were the reasons why he was killed. I better give my opinions and some evidence why I say that the British were involved in this assassination...

Off course this is unacceptable, Myanmar is a fascist regime that opresses its People. Any opposition to this opression is to be welcomed.

So what is the international left going to do about it? Are we going to fume and return to our article writing?

People in the global north at least are so jaded about Burma, it's hard to get regular or apolitical people riled up about this 30 decade old bastion of fascism. Unfortunately, the left in the west is useless on this matter.

However, I am curious about what activists in India think of this. Many Indian leftists live in the eastern part of the country that borders Burma, and have companies in their communities that do business in Burma.
