Anyone ever seen this? It's by zizek and I think it's absolutely fantastic. I'm trying to find something else like it, anyone have any recommendations?

Is it somekind of freudian analysis, that finds fallic- and vaginal symbols and similar stuff, where everyone else wouldn´t even think about it?

I think the Zizek bases his analysis on Lacan rather than Freud. I saw a part of the DVD at a friend's place last weekend, and it seemed very interesting. But we were chatting a lot on the side, so I better report back when I watch it in its entirety.

Well, not really, but interestingly enough, he sort of raises this question in part 2 of the film. He says that people often misinterpret freud as being overly sexual etc, but he says the way to look at it is not to ask what makes us think of sex, but what we think when we are actually having sex. He uses a lot of interesting examples to back himself up, and, if nothing else, it provides a really good insight into the mindset of the various directors he brings up.

I guess if you don't like zizeks style you probably shouldnt watch it though; he uses a lot of intellectual garbage, which can be really off-putting ;)

Yeah? I think so too.
In the actual film though, he refers to both of them just as much. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the film after you see it :)

Correct. He's written a book of film criticism called Everything You Wanted to Know About Lacan (But Were Afraid to Ask Hitchcock). It's written with great wit and some insight.

I inveigh psychoanalysis and oedipilaztion! Anyways I would highly suggest reading Deleuze's Cinema: Time-Image, one of the most fascinating books on cinema.

From a modern neurologist's perspective almost all of the sciences that start with a Ψ are seen as an amateur's sophistry, nevertheless it is interesting to watch. The documentary makes clear Zizek doesn't exactly agree with Lacan, he does distance himself from the theory before showing what parts of it were driving Hitchcock or Lynch.
