I have to do a project for history class this year. The theme is "Innovation in History" or something like that. Also, the project has to be "American".
What should I do it on?

Here is a good one:

Totally straight faced, do your project on American path-forging advances in chemical and Biological weaponry, and how far the nation has come since the fledgling days of "Small pox on blankets" ,to "operation Mongoose" over Cuba, to introducing African Swine fever into Cuba in 1971, "Agent Orange" and "White Phosphorus" in Vietnam (made with pride in the US of A), and finally to the more refined and high tech strains of the present day, like highly efficient Anthrax spores.

Seriously, if you do this project (and it is all true), do it without a shred of Irony or a condemning tone. Keep a smile on your face, and play dumb when your teacher gets wise to what you're doing. Act like you are sincere, and you are praising American innovation and superior craftsmanship...in the field of bio and chemical weapons.

For the win, include in your paper " ...the Zyklon B gas employed by the Third reich against populations of domestic dissidents is actually quite primitive and inefficient compared to more contemporary gasses such as Cyclosarin. While a subject may have required 300 mg of Zyklon B to recieve a lethal dosage (and it still may have taken up to 10 minutes for the subject to die), 30 mg of Cyclosarin per subject is suffient to effectively reduce a large population, and it evaporates at a much slower pace than Sarin, and other lethal gasses."

I was going to say the Black Panthers or the IWW, but then I saw Prairie Fire's post. I hate using this word because of all the 4chan idiots, but that is definitely pure WIN.

I still think the Panthers is a good idea. Or you could do about the resurrection of the Monroe doctrine and its use as an imperial tool. You have like 50-60 years of American oppression right there. Everything from Guatemala 54 to Venezuela 98 and continuing.

Don't worry about it. :D

If you do go through with this though, you have to film it/ keep us filled in on how it went.

I want to hear how your teacher took it.

Will do. I don't have any idea how the teacher will take it, since I actually haven't met him yet. He assigned the project through his website.

Do it. I was thinking of doing my project on something like that for a topic " Does America Still Have Heroes?" but basing it on the fact I would probably get institutionalized, my History teacher loves America so I would have gotten a bad grade.

I can't think of a more virulently right-wing branch of the "humanities" than history departments. It's not surprising, given who history's written by, but it's sorely exacerbated by popular ideas about "putting oneself in the shoes" of these authors to get a "more authentic feel" for the time etc. etc.

My high school history teacher was a former Young Nat (Youth wing of our centre-right party), a monarchist, militant Zionist, Tsarist, Malthusian and a fascist sympathizer.

Here's his current quote in that box under his Facebook profile picture

"...a reasonable estimate for an industrialised world society at the present north American material standard of living would be 1 billion."
(United Nations Global Biodiversity Statement, 1995.) Bring on the 'Third World' wars! (me)

He took me off his friends list because of my support for Palestine.

At my university Economics or Political Studies is more right-wing. Our History department has papers like "A History of the US Working Class", "African-American Freedom Struggles 1900-2000", etc. But our History department is more an exception than a rule.

My high school US History teacher was a Jewish socialist who had lived for several years on a kibbutz. He left Israel because of the way the Israeli government was treating the Palestinians. :D

I was lucky, though. Most of the history teachers were indeed very right-wing.
