On Wednesday morning, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old where trying to break into a supermarket in Krems an der Donau, Austria. They were armed with a screwdriver and a garden fork. Two cops arrived and fired three shots, one bullet hit the 16-year-old in both legs, the other caused fatal wounds to the 14-year-old, he died an hour later in a hospital. According to an Austrian tabloid (http://www.krone.at/krone/S25/object_id__156047/hxcms/) he was shot in the back. Rather obviously, this is another case of police murder and the cops are going to have a hard time making it "self-defence". Not much is known yet about the backround, the police announced the two shooters were "psychically deranged" and "not able for hearings".
The only left reaction I read of so far were spontaneous demonstrations at Wien with 40 people and at Berlin with 150 people.

A similar thing happened here in Canada a few years ago. There were police in an airport who tasered a Polish immigrant to death. The man didn't know much English and he was apperently freaking out, probably due to lack of communication. Anyway, the police tasered him to death and didn't even get any kind of punishment. Last time I checked, murder was punishable by a life sentence under Capitalist law. Are cops suddenly exempted from this? Apperently so. I don't know anything about Austrian law, but I have a feeling those cops will get away with murder as well.

This is a clear sign for the increasing police violence in both Austria and Germany.

´Armed´ teenager gunned down by cops
By William Green
Lower Austrian prosecutors have said a 14-year-old boy who was shot dead by police at a supermarket was "technically" armed – with a screwdriver and a garden hoe – when he was gunned down by officers.
The boy was killed and a 16-year-old was left seriously wounded as police opened fire in a supermarket in Krems an der Donau after they responded to an alarm at the Merkur supermarket at Landersdorfer Straße 8 in Krems this morning (Weds).
Friedrich Kutschera, the head of the public-prosecutor’s office in Krems an der Donau, said exact details of the incident were still unclear but that the tow boys, who were from the town and "well-known" to local police, had hhad a screwdriver and a garden hoe with them and so had been armed in a "technical", if not legal, sense.
He added he did not know if the policemen had been attacked by the two boys, who had hidden in a recess in front of the store’s meat-storage room, but that the officers had had "sudden contact" with the two suspects in the totally-dark supermarket at 2:55am and opened fire.
Kutschera said the 14-year-old had been shot in the upper chest and died an hour later at the Krems provincial clinic and the 16-year-old had been shot several times in the thigh and been taken to the clinic for treatment. He added both policemen had fired but said he didn’t know how many shots they had fired.
He said the two policemen involved had not yet been questioned but were being given counselling.
Kutschera said an autopsy would be performed today on the dead boy’s body and the two policemen and the Merkur manager who was with them at the time would be questioned.

>>two policemen involved had not yet been questioned but were being given counseling<< (emphasis mine)
That's certainly comforting. Gee I hope they're all right.
Why weren't these thugs already in counseling?
Or were they? Bet not.

They took the video tape only to return it when legal action took place. "its only 1 persons view, only 1 peice of evidence"
Warning video is disturbing, watch at your own risk.
Good news, the police force in the UK are getting tasers to more officers rather than just highly trained armed police. Wait that is not good news

While I think that shooting a teenager like this is criminal, under most western legal systems these cops prevented armed youths from breaking and entering and therefore the best we can hope for is that they get suspended on grounds of heavy handed-ness.
In an ideal society these men would be put away for a very long time, alas we are not in an ideal society and cannot expect the victims to be treated fairly

Shot in the back!? ---Cheap crime. Figures with the police running amok trying to assert "law and order" in the middle of the recesssion. When will the revolution arrive?
