Awesome illustration, and great for those who justify some peoples (like the United States violence) more than terrorists or guerillas (who are exactly the same). A big Pirate is'nt any more justifiable than a little one.

The quote is actually a fameous one from St. Augustine in the City of God. Chomsky just borrows it.

It's quite in line with Catholic moral thinking. :)

i see a big dilema about imperialism, i mean, is all the military agression considered imperialist-wise? can we consider assistance toward friendly regime a form of imperialism?

if the us stop being imperialist tomorow, would it mean that they will have to stop all exchange they have abroad, including military assistance?

if some dude decide to make an ethnic cleansing in africa, should we interfere or just lets side x wipe out side y?

Basically what leftists will say is if the US does intervene it's imperialism, if they don't they've let a lot of people die.

I'm sure the US has intervened for purely humanitarian purposes, I can't think of any examples off hand, however if it happened its the the exeption, not the rule. In liberia, many people were begging for the US to intervene or the UN, or something, but no oil there huh.

Hah, really?

Imperialism is essencially international actions exploiting one country for the benefit of the other. Which pretty much includes allmost all military agression, especially for the power players in the world.
