View Full Version : Creative Ideas for Promoting an Event?
Cooler Reds Will Prevail

Hey folks, so I'm organizing an event here in San Francisco for the Kasama Project on the 22nd of this month. I'm brainstorming with some comrades about ideas for how to creatively promote the event, which will be mainly small discussions on key issues, such as how to effectively organize in our communities. San Francisco is a difficult city to simply "flyer" in because there is so much white noise already going on; tons of posters, colorful walls, advertisements, and other flyers. I need to be as innovative as possible here. I've compiled a number of ideas, but if you have suggestions, please do share!!!

Don't rule out fliering. The mission is a good place to start because its a (mostly) working class neighborhood where a lot of left leaning people live. We tend to flier outside BART (24th St. is a good one to do in the Mission) stations during commuter hours. Walk up and down Mission and Valencia and flier in cafes/taquerias etc. If the event is happening after school starts definitely flier at State and CCSF.
Submit the event to the Guardian and Indybay and stuff like that.
It is important not to put fliers on lamp posts because certain parts of city have major fines for doing so, it is best not to risk it.

I don't know how much billboards cost over there but maybe yourself and your comrades could all throw down and rent one for a day or two and advertise that way!

Face to face outreach is time consuming and often awkward, but it usually produces the best results.

post on forums, SF area radical blogs, social networking sites. Flier at places that are friendly to your cause like radical book stores and other places where radicals frequent.
