Am I the only one who hates it when people use such words to explain your analysis, your political ideology? Things like saying 'Oh, she's political' or 'He has strong opinions'. For some reason it really annoys me.

What bothers me even more is when I cam called "pessimistic" or "cynical" when I talk about my dissatisfaction with the current system. It mostly comes from liberal Obama fanboys/girls, since I also tend to mention my dislike of him under the same breath.

I always thought communists were supposed to be overly-optimistic, utopian dreamers? Well, apparently that's alright, so long as you believe Obama will get us there!

er, no? I'm political and have strong opinions. Whyyyy would I object to someone saying so.

Kinda... I find the person stating such blatant ignorance annoying. "Oh, look at me! I am sooooo apolitical, because Brad Pitt is also sooo apolitical, and soooo cool, and I am soooooo in y'know?" Using political activity as a negative word is a waterproof way to make yourself look stupid without realizing it yourself.

You're miserable and arrogant anyways.:p But I still agree with you. The "Oh, he's political/opinionated" line just seems so damn dismissive.

To be fair, there is such a thing as being over-opinionated, which is usually a good way to be ignored, mocked or told to shut up. Some people really are opinionated jerks who have their minds made up about every goddamn thing, and think they have it all figured out. Not just angsty teens, but also those in their early 20s who've done some college and think that the world is at their feet...

However, other people might like them for having a strong opinion about things, and if you're a fence sitter who's afraid of offending anyone, you'll never get anywhere either. So it's best to find some sort of balance.

Yes.

When my father has asked me my opinion about news stories or current affairs on the TV in the past he gets annoyed that I am 'opinionated'. I have learnt to avoid these conversations. Now he gets mad that I have no opinion and that I 'don't give a shit'.

I have strong political opinions, and I don't need everyone informing me of this. I don't get pissed when my drunk friends say that shit, but when sober people start talking about me and telling me about who I am, it gets on my nerves.

I don't talk to other humans but...

It all depends on the context. I wouldn't care if someone described me as 'political' or as someone who has 'strong opinions' because both of those statements are quite accurate; however, it's different if somebody says it dismissively, as though they've just summed up your entire personality or politics. I hate it when people call others opinionated just because someone feels strongly about something. It's better than having no opinions!
