This is the book which must be published in English. Then again Harvard won't publish it. It only proves us right.
The french book "Le Livre Noir de Capitalisme" catalogues the death toll from the free for all, free market system through Famines, Destruction of social programs, Massacres of unionists, Leopold's genocide in the Congo. Quite a nice read really. Shame they won't publish it in English.

I just bought the book in hardback this weekend.
So far an interesting read from a full-circle point of view. Some of it is heavy going, text-booky, which won't bother many of the smart people here.
It's not cheap, here is a link to the Amazon.com sale of the book. It should reach your bookstore soon or you can buy it from Amazon.

I searched the net for well over an hour for the Black Book of capitalism.
Theres a french guy who wrote an album with this title and a book review on the book. Surpris surprise I couldn't track down an actual copy.
I'm going to France later in the year maybe I'll track it down. Shame I don't speak French, the locals won't mind but ;-)

I think it would be a terrfific idea to have this book translated into English and published. My French is pathetic. Does anyone know a French professor or something that could get a grant to do this?
Lots of you are associated with universities, can you check with the French department to see if we can get this going?

Good afternoon.
I have been searching for weeks for a reference/source that states something along the lines of "Harvard University Press refuses to publish the Black Book of Capitalism".
Can anyone help me?
I have no doubt that Harvard has a pro-capitalist reactionary bias, but for scholarly purposes, I need proof that Harvard indeed refused to publish the book.
Thanks for any help.
Btw I translated the index into English on wikipedia in case anyone wants to read the table of contents.

I don't think anyone said that Harvard had refused, the OP stated he thought they would refuse.

Harvard University Press Refuses Publication
Harvard University Press refused to publish (The Black Book of Capitalism). A year earlier Harvard University Press published The Black Book of Communism (http://www.revleft.com/wiki/The_Black_Book_of_Communism). Since then; two authors of the Black Book of Communism have publicly disassociated themselves from Courtois's statements in the introduction about the scale of the terror of states that claimed to be communist. The legitimacy of Harvard University Press as an unbiased academic publisher has been called into question. [9] (http://www.revleft.com/vb/#cite_note-8)

The current director is William P. Sisler and the editor-in-chief is Michael G. Fisher. Perhaps, someone can exhume some more information about this two "obscure" figures spearheading the company.
