Has anyone got a picture or a link to it of the Dutch hooded squatters standing behind a old lady squatter- I seem to recall it was used for some article? Anyway, anyone?

I was busy with school back then but i think it was during their first squat action, the multicultural comunity/youth center they where involved in got closed down and the local goverment refused them an new place, so they squated sommething.
back then they were a bit of an bunch of macho bolsturous " revolutionary but gangsta" hiphop kids, they calmed down a lot since then.
the granny was an sympathetic neighboor who came over for tea and a chat if i remeber corectly.

What do you mean by cooled down?

Anyway, funny coincidence.

they where the first substantial group of non-white people active in the local scene and it took some time everybody to find an good working relationship and later friendship.
we had to get used to people talking about *****es and their niggers and bringing chicken to the vegan barbeque, they had to get used to people confronting them with their (now a lot less) homophobia and sexism.
most of them droped out out of the active scene quite fast but some stayed and our good comrades now.

and bringing chicken to the vegan barbeque
People should be able to bring whatever they like to a BBQ.

But it was a vegan barbeque.

So? Some people who came along wanted to eat meat, and brought it along with them, what's wrong with that?

Pogue

So?

This would presuppose that the only food they want there is vegan. So to bring meat would be a bit rude. If you want to eat meat don't go to a vegan barbeque.

I altered the post you initially replied to.
Well, you could say it weren't a vegan bbq after they arrived ;)
I don't see how it's particulary rude? It was a social event they wanted to attend and supplied the food they would enjoy eating- so the vegans/veggies wouldn't have to purchase something they object to. Win, win if you ask me.

It was a vegan barbeque. To bring meat to a vegan barbeque is rude because it was clearly stated it was to be a meat free barbeque.

I guess we'll just disagree, because for one I wouldn't implace such dietary regulations upon a event, unless I would have to cook it or pay for it myself. I see a BBQ as a communal event with people sitting about drinking (though some weirdos ban this because straight edgers may be present- e.g. Climate Camp gatherings),, having a bit of a kick around and having a go on the BBQ.

I'm a vegetarian and I don't exclude people from eating meat although obviously I don't like it. I agree with you, it should be an open communal event. As long as the vegetarian food and meat is cooked seperately its fine.

However if a group is having a vegan barbeque, presumably to promote veganism, bringing meat is rude.

Well I'm vegan. Hence my opinion on what to take to 'vegan BBQs' vetoes yours.

If theres only one barbecue set, i agree it would be an issue because the juices would get mixed.

As long as it's cooked on a seperate grill i dont see why it should be an issue.

God i hate militant veggies.
