The group stage hasn't started yet, but for now, we can talk about the poor saps who have to go through qualification rounds.

FC Twente had a tough draw against Sporting Lisbon last night. To make matters worse, the goalie was sent off early and they lost the initiative. The sub goalie, Mikhaylov, turned out to be fucking brilliant as he stopped the penalty and pulled the team through. 0-0 So they might just get a home win.

Of course, then they'll still probably have to face a team like Arsenal in the next round...

Also, APOEL did well against Partizan, which fuser will be pleased to know. Celtic lost at home to Dinamo Moscow, putting them in a difficult position. Looks like we're not going to see many Scots in Europe, except for Rangers. :(

hahahahahaha celtic fucking ballsed up against some Russian nobodies. Hilarious.

Good luck to FC Twente, i'd like them to qualify but i don't think it's likely.

Winner for this season: Chelsea or Real Madrid.

Russian nobodies

Dinamo are one of the most well-known clubs, especially of the Soviet era. Lev Yashin used to play for them.

Not really. I'd say the most well known and talented clubs in Russia currently were Spartak Moscow, CSKA Moscow and Zenit. Plus saying an "okay" russian side beat celtic ain't nearly as funny.

Currently. Dinamo have one of the longest histories in Russian Football and certainly aren't 'nobodies'.

yeah well fuck you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The point being that saying they got beaten by nobodies is far funnier.

FC Twente 1 - 1 Sporting CP (Sporting CP win on away goals)

Wow, just wow. I'm not a big Twente fan, but they deserved much more than this. They got a great early lead and held on to it for 90 minutes. Then, in the 4th minute of injury time, Sporting get a corner, their keeper (!) gets to it and it touches a Twente defender - own goal. It's sickening, just like the Portuguese brand of anti-football itself.

This Twente team definitely deserved to be in the Champions League, but now they will have to focus on domestic competitions again. It's even sad for Steve McClaren, who got so close to what he wanted: showing England that he is a good manager, who can take a provincial side into the CL. Instead, he gets to slog through another round of Europa League qualifications.

A great shame, to be honest though not many English people will accept him as a good manager until he comes back the PL and proves his metal here. Not me though, i think he's a very good club manager as he proved when he was in charge at Middlesbrough.

Good on them. It's one of those results which would have been funny but it's good they're through.

It seems all the celtic fans on this site are irish... whats wrong with your own teams?

Celtic are my own team, always have been.

If you mean why don't I follow a local club - I do. Donegal Celtic - Irish championship side.

Your own team? Why though?

I feel i should add that i only said it to get a reaction, which hasn't been as forthcoming as i had hoped.

Anyone see arsenal massively fluke a win at celtic? That Gallas goal in particular was stupidly unlucky.

Wanted Man

Quite. They showed highlights of the first half here, then did the second half live. The goals were lucky, but especially in the second half, Arsenal dominated the game. Pretty boring match though.

Yeah it was a bit boring. Did anyone see alexander hlebs goal for stuttgart? Fucking mouthwatering.

Apparently he recently said he wishes he had never left arsenal.

Yeah, I did see highlights of the Stuttgart game, as well as the other ones. Hleb was good, and I noticed Fiorentina get some away goals against Sporting, which is kind of nice (I don't care much for Sporting in particular, nor for Portuguese football in general).

Fiorentina are receiving Sporting Lisbon tonight. Viola have 2 away goals already, so there is a lot of work to be done for Sporting.

Nor can i but i don't really like Fiorentina either.

Arsenal winning 1-0 on a more than dodgy penalty decision.

Arsenal through, Arshy scored which will help my dream team (in the Sun newspaper :s) and Vermy also played fucking well.

Good game but from half time onwards I was just waiting for the subs, then when they came I was pissed off for having to wait so long, and pissed of Bentner was still on the pitch

Standard Leige OOOO
I hope they get the second place, or at least 3rd.I was hopping they would draw with the fucking unnamed idiots, fucking fascists etc, so they were coming down here and we would have a team to support, and fortunately in Belgium they were going to be crushed too, but fucking uefa put them in the same shitty voting, so this wasnt possible.:cursing:
UEFA=piece of shit

Olympiakos won, I won 5$ from a Dutch guy sitting next to me at the pub. Win-win situation eh?

Wanted Man
18th September 2009, 11:43
 I watched that match, what were AZ thinking? Olympiakos were utterly unimpressive, with about 40% of possession they never amounted to shit. But AZ never once managed to reach their strikers, they were horrid up front. If they had used their possession better, they could have won easily. Instead, Olympiakos simply waited for the right chance to use their physical advantage, and they profited from some poor marking. A deserved win for them in the end.
