LOL

That was good CopperGoat!!

I guess I AM an old man for not knowing what the @#% Dummy vision was! I've never heard this term before!!

Happyguy, thanks for enlightening me.

So CopperGoat, you don't mind hanging out with an "old" ignorant man such as myself making music?
How long have you been playing for? What knida stuff are you into?

CopperGoat
9th August 2003, 01:28
Nope, I don't mind hanging out with an old ignorant man that didn't know what "dummy vision" was. The term does sound self explanitory though. But anyways, I have been playing for around 4-5 years. And I am into metal (system of a down, Iron Maiden), I'm into funk (red hot chili peppers, George Clinton), rock (rage against the machine, jimi hendrix, led zeppelin) and bunch of other stuff....

DOH; to quote Homer Simpson, "WHY YOU LITTLE" ..... well in retrospect, "dummy vision" makes sense.

Since when are RHCP funk?

NoPlaceForHeroes, where do you live? what kinds of stuff do you like to sing?

Can you guys get around the GTA? All we need now is a drummer... man, but you guys are too young for me; I'm almost twice your age! I feel old now - I'm depressed :( Thanks...

CopperGoat

Since when are RHCP funk?

WHAT???!!!!!!!!

RHCP not funk??? HAHAH you have got to be kidding me man.

Flea? that's total funk right there. They play funk stuff, they play funk tunes funk guitar funk bass(especially funk bass, funk singing) you can't get any funkier man.

They played with George Clinton, Stevie Wonder, and other funk legends. Come on man, how can you say RHCP is not funk. Have you listened to their old stuff?

I agree their new stuff is not that funky anymore except for some, but their old stuff is nothing but funk..

ONE
12th August 2003, 15:56
Well, they have Funk influences, but they're not considered funk... here's a classification I got from Yahoo:

"...>Music > Artists > By Genre > Rock and Pop > Red Hot Chili Peppers "

...and check this out:

"Red Hot Chili Peppers nominated as Best Rock Act for the Comet Awards & Nest International Band At Kerrang! Awards !"

Also when you go to HMV and other stores, their stuff is under the Rock/Pop.

Look at Led Zeppelin; they have HUGE Blues influences and have in fact stole riffs from Blues artists, but they're considered rock! so there might be elements of funk in RHCP, but they're considered rock.

CopperGoat
13th August 2003, 01:52
You searched on Yahoo to see if RHCP would be listed on Funk? ONE, let me tell you something, Yahoo music is so generalized it's not even funny. They probably don't even have a category of funk rock! That's probably why they just put it in rock.

Well yah, they don't have "best funk act". It's 2003 ONE, funk is almost dead. Noone knows what it is anymore, that's why they just put them in Rock. Infact "Rock" is such a generalized music category, that alot of bands are listed there.

And at HMV Stores they don't have funk shelves or anything, it's just POP or Rock.

Heck, they put Jimi Hendrix under Rock and old rock 'n' Roll and Classic rock legends in just "rock". I have even seen some shelves have Bob Dylan under rock!!!!

Oh and my buddy is a drummer and he's 16 in Toronto. In case you wanted to know. And this guy is pro.

In response to your question, ONE:

I live in the Whitby-Ajax area, about a 30-45 minute drive from Toronto. I sing hard rock to metal. I sound the best in singing a Brain Johnson(post-1980 AC/DC) style or James Hetfield from Metallica style. I can also write really good lyrics.

ONE
13th August 2003, 04:00
I agree, music in Stores and on yahoo IS generalized.... I'm also aware its 2003

like I said, I think RHCP have funk influences, but I consider them rock. This is similar to Led Zeppelin's blues influences... Either way, it doesn't matter what the genre is, If it sounds good - it sounds good! I like a bunch of their stuff. hmm, I just thought of something, maybe we can do poll to see what other members think (just out of curiosity, whether they're funk or rock won't change my life :P )

Anyway, where does your friend live? do you guys drive?

Are there any rehearsal rooms in Burlington?

Working guitarist right right here. Thats right in the Isle of Man, so a fair treck to reach you I am afraid, but I do have the experience, the equiptment, and can probably shift to bass if you are desperate, I also co-write music and lyrics in many genres. Improvising is good as well. So if you ever run short on experienced leftist musicians you know where I am, just take out a small loan before calling me :D :P .

Seriously though If anyone is capable of making an online collaboration possible, we could try that, I got a few things up my sleeve, and it would be great if we could write something for Che-lives.

HOLY SHIT!!!! You are taking the piss? Right?

I think you mean Laxey, but I live near there, on route to Ramsey about halfway between each.

You have to be taking the piss, I started a few Manx threads but never saw you there...where are you from?

For everyone else this Island has a population of less than 80,000. This is quite scary. As the majority of the population are elderly.

Yes a very small world. The Island must of had one of the highest concentrations of Che-livers anywhere. I think my friend has an unused account that is about one per 25,000 people. And the fflag is red.

I think that Leighton Buzzard has the highest concentration.. about 4 people from that town post/have posted on che-lives... but we all go to the same school. So its not really fair.

I didnt like the north of the Island, rains to much, Laxy has one of the highest annual precipitation rates in the world. But its still OK, a lot of the better sites are in the North like Tinwald (sp) and the Laxy wheel.
