Hear me out people...

Cars are viewed quite differently in the United States and in Europe.

In Europe, F1 racing is considered a prestigious, respectable sport, comparable to golf or tennis perhaps.

In the United States, Nascar is viewed as "sport," mainly enjoyed by drunkard hillbillies from the greater Atlanta, Georgia area.

Discuss.

F1 is considered a prestigious, respectable sport in the U.S., too.

Car Racing is shit, no matter where you come from.

Car racing a competition? Yes. A sport? No. How does driving a car make you an athlete? I guarantee you half of NASCAR fans only watch in hope of seeing a crash. It is the most redundant "sport" ever. "What is he going to do next? Make a left turn. OMG God don't tell me what comes next! Jumping Jesus he made another left turn!!! How exciting!" I mean really, I'd rather watch a slug travel across a window ledge.

Almost as ridiculous as Poker being a Sport.

Meh.

Watching wrecks in Nascar is pretty interesting though, but I'd rather not watch 4 hours just to see 1 wreck..

Sports in general are pretty boring, only those who are used to them can handle it. I personally never was a fan of any sport.

Most sports -- when you get to the bottom of it -- are like this. I mean, we all watch football to see the occasional fights between the fans of the Italian team getting dramatic and overreacting with fouls

This.

Real sports (ie. extended physical exertion by the competing human participants) are fun.

A lot of sports are fun to play but they are boring to watch.

Car racing is also boring to watch. Though it's considerably more boring than watching other sports.

NASCAR should not be that famous at all. It is the most boring thing and the only thing worse are those shit video games they make which somehow get sold.

Motor racing is almost certainly a sport - you have to maintain a certain level of fitness in order to be an effective racing driver. Not only is it an advantage to not be a total fatass, but you have to have a constitution capable of dealing with various G-forces, and be able to drive at a professional level at the same time.
