I've already noticed a few comrades on here from other movements, namely the IRSP (a party I have great admiration for and have no doubt that if Seamus Costello was alive today, would be a major player) and am happy to join them here and learn about their positions.

I'm 17 years old, and have been active in politics since 2007 when I joined Sinn Féin, a Republican Socialist party (some of the Irps here might have different views, which I welcome and will take on board, but at the moment I feel that as the largest party it offers the best hope), and am still learning alot about different sections of the Revolutionary Left, and am here to learn a lot more, especially as I grow more militant with the more I learn.

I've begun reading Marx's Communist Manifesto, a book I had overlooked as I started out with James Connolly's Labour in Irish History, but both I find equally relevant and even prophetic to the modern day conditions. I am looking forward to reading his many other writings, before moving onto contemporary Socialist writers.

Go raibh maith agat, Comrade.

Before I joined Sinn Fein, I had been in contact with the Socialist Party and have considered joining them since on several occasions, but I am always saddened to see that the party does not have branches spread across the country outside of major urban areas.

I have immense respect for Joe Higgins in 2008 I got to met him at a Lisbon Treaty debate during which we were on the same side, although I was speaking for the floor rather than the top table. I also have read the Socialist Party's line on the North and have to say that alot of it is accurate and makes sense. My Dad worked with Terry Kelleher in An Post for a few years but has since retired.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Welcome to RevLeft. Do you have any idea how many other communists or socialists there are in Sinn Fein?

Well as Gerry Adams himself said "There are no Marxists in Sinn Fein".
