What a week! Police battle strikers in Korea, workers occupy a factory in
England, a general strike in Honduras, tens of thousands march to protect
jobs in Scotland, and huge victory at one of the USA's most anti-union
employers.
Please participate in the campaigns below and most important -- pass this
message on.
We've had urgent appeals for help from unions in the UK and Turkey - please
take a moment to send off your messages in support of these campaigns and
spread the word to your friends and co-workers:
- *Turkey: Free jailed trade union
leaders*<http://www.labourstart.org/cgi-bin/solidarityforever/show_campaign.cgi?c=560>
- *Keep Diageo jobs in
Scotland*<http://www.labourstart.org/cgi-bin/solidarityforever/show_campaign.cgi?c=559>
We also have some updates on earlier campaigns and news stories:
*Honduras* - Full coverage of the general
strike<http://www.labourstart.org/cgi-bin/show_news.pl?country=Honduras>
*Indonesia* - A new video
<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWNsqOhRLow>depicts the struggle for
trade union rights at the Nescafé factory in
Panjang
*Korea* - Full coverage of the battles taking place at the Ssangyong auto
factory <http://www.labourstart.org/cgi-bin/show_news.pl?country=Korea>,
which 1,000 workers have occupied:
*Pakistan* - Union members at Unilever's Lipton
factory<http://www.iuf.org/den6083>face vicious reprisals for standing
up for their rights
*Philippines* - Our campaign in support of Paul Yu workers is over. As the
union wrote to us, On "July 10 the protesting Paul Yu workers in the Mactan
Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) in the Philippines accepted management's offer
of separation but managed to increase the amount of termination pay. It was
a partial victory but a victory nonetheless." Read the full statement
here<http://www.unionbook.org/pg/pages/view/16460/>
*UK* - If you're a British citizen or resident, please send a message to
Gordon Brown <http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/SaveVestas/> in support of
the Vestas workers in the Isle of Wight
*USA* - After 5 months of negotiations by the UFCW and a 17-year struggle
for union recognition at the world's largest pork processing facility
workers have voted to ratify their first-ever union
contract<http://www.iuf.org/den6047>
Our book of the week this week is, appropriately enough, the brand-new
*"Strikes
Around the World: Case Studies of 15
Countries<http://www.labourstart.org/bookshop/?p=75>
"*. To learn more about it and to order copies for yourself or your union,

Thanks - and please pass this message on!
