I've only been on RevLeft since early April, and in this very short time I've noticed quite a few members who just stop coming around. Some who were very active, posting quite a bit, suddenly vanish. Wonder why.
I can only imagine what the veteran RevLefters have seen in turnover...

Pogue, I believe you'd be right.
Maybe some just get a new account and drop the old ones, if they escape the sockpuppet snare, but that wouldn't make any sense unless they embarrassed themselves or something.
However, embarrassment doesn't appear to be too common from what I've seen. :-)

Some are probably chased away by experienced flamers, others are kicked out for being trollish provocateurs and still others just change their forum names and undergo virtual makeovers. Like me, for example. I started out as "WILLEAT JAPUSSY", non-sectarian anarcho-monarchist. Soon I realized something was very wrong about my forum persona: The name was too long!
So I changed it. Jah Pussy was my first choice but it was already taken by, as I understand it, one of our present moderators. So I had to settle for this stupid boring name of New Tet. It was suggested by the moderators as a way, they said, of 'keeping track of my contributions'. CONTRIBUTIONS???
My stuff is more than mere contributions! What I say ought to be quoted by presidents. Hell, I should get the president of the American Dental Association to quote one of my better aphorisms: "If you're going to lie through your teeth at least brush them, Howard!" A slight sashay of the head and shoulders lends that powerful rebuttal the right kind of emphasis, don't you think?
Except the first time that I used it on someone (a balding middle-aged man who though he knew everything about 'Marxism-Leninism' and just wouldn't shut up), my opponent was so stunned that all he could do to gather his wits about him was to shout back at me "You fruitcake!" What a putz, right?
You probably noticed one of my previous brilliant threads I started using only these two beautifully shaped and talented hands: "Is Leftism Served By A Full Discussion Of Jacko's Nose Surgery?" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnfJhJ8d-D0&feature=channel_page) Ok, so no one responded, but that article was the cleverest expose I've ever written of the hypocrisy of the left in dealing with important topics like Michael Jackson (yes, I can almost hear you say, "Oh, I'll always miss my Jacko!"). I've written about 25 versions of this exclusive expose (available in all formats for only $20 pp).
Look, I'd love to sit here and chat with you all day but I just remembered that I have to feed my salamander (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VREG5kkJPUk&feature=channel_page) and oil my assault rifles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTRO3cSFUcE)...

It's the pink, frilly lace curtains that do it for me. That and the European style bathrooms; the commodes are just marvelous!

Get with it, Holden. You can't spend your entire life walking around with a permanent look of shock on your face from all the "Fuck yous' plastered on the subway walls, you know!

Not before we have a full and frank discussion of the Michael Jackson phenomenon from the anarcho-monarchist perspective!

But maybe I'll stop just to prove myself wrong.

Fuserg was here before me but I was a global mod when he was still in the cabbage patch. I demand he respects my authority...
I miss all the mental Stalinists, all the people with warped political view points helped me better form my own.
P.S. Revleft makes you smart as fuck, anybody who says it hasn't was either too intelligent before they came here or lying.

I guess they run away for many reasons.
Some people start to fancy socialism and want to learn more, thus they windup here.
After a week or so they either get really into the whole thing or dismiss it as utopia.
Also Revleft covers many many ideologies that fall under the general "left", but members seldom argue and clash over their ideas.
What I personally noticed (still, not a reason to leave) is that some members lack the fundamental conversation culture.
For instance, if someone tries but fails to prove you wrong, he/she gives you a simple "fuck you". Again something that people don't value as good debate, obviously
Another thing that might drive some people away is the general attitude that only a hardcore idealists are right, everything else is reactionary.
You can not even try to propose a realistic solution for a given situation without some prick calling you "reactionary".
These are just some of the reasons I guess some people leave.
The only thing that *bothers me*, in lack of a better expression, is that the whole board is still teen (even preteen). But I can't say that, cause then the same majority-pack accuses me of being an "Ageist" and - of course - a "reactionary"
I hold nothing against younger people, I just compare it to myself and many other "comrades" when I was 16. We knew shit, talked shit and basically were just a pain in the ass.

Oh hell yes. I knew nothing at all prior to spending some time here. After sticking around a bit, I've learned more history and political theory than a few years at school.

Oh noez!Tell me you arent organizing with TAII's groups of the elit anti-anarkkkists to overthrow me?:crying:

Yees... My activity has decreased lately due to increased challenge when accessing my computer. But then again, everytime I get on the computer I check revleft. I don't do that with my e-mail for example. (might contain something from the boss)

I imagine a lot of people leave because they get fed up with arguing against liberals on what is supposed to be a forum for revolutionaries.

Another great point. I went through a similar period myself many moons ago.
Maybe most of us have.
