Well I don't really think that's the issue, punks tend to wear alot of weird shit. The issue is, Avril Lavigne is in NO WAY punk.

He music sounds more like poppy country with a couple rock songs than punk.

I read a Rolling Stone interview with her, it made me sick. She freely admits that she didn't know who The Sex Pistols or the Clash were until her bandmates made her listen to some, she "didn't really like it", yet in the next sentence she maintained that she was "punk". She said she could write "a song a minute, I'm just like that" yet she forgot to mention that all of her hit songs were written by a song writing team.

And worst of all, she claims to skate and get kicked out of skate spots "all the time". From the small amount of footage I've seen, she can hardly stand on a board, much less be skating stairs in parking lots like she claims. As a skater that one is partiulcarly painful

I am very pro-Avril.

I find that everyone with the shittiest tastes in music have this extremely passionate resentment for her. All she is is another mainstream pop icon who sings songs that aren't anything I'd consider good, but at the same time aren't offensively intolerable. The anti-Avril crowd are usually kids who think that punk rock is still the sound of rebellion. There's a whole lot worse shit on the radio right now to complain about. "Anti-Avril" kids are usually the ones that listen to it.

This has nothing to do with music, did you read my post ? If she was just a regular teeny pop singer I wouldn't care, but she isn't. Did you read my post ? She claims to be punk, she has actually said that, yet she doesn't know ANY of the first punk bands. She is putting out a fake image and using 2 of my biggest loves, punk rock and skateboarding, as a means to get rich.

I understand the anti-Avril sentiment entirely. I know it has nothing to do with music. It has to do with image. She doesn't look the way you want her to sound. And I'm fucking glad that she's there to help me distinguish between those who have been absorbed in the MTV spawned mentality of selling music based on an image and those who realize that she's no different than anything else in the music industry.

Accept the fact that she's as "punk" and "punk" is these days.

And yeah, I can call any band I want to "shitty", because I've yet to meet anyone else who has better musical tastes than I do.

I think Justin Timberlake has a some catchy songs, but I honestly don't pay much attention to any of the shit you mentioned. The only reason I've been able to pay attention to Avril is the response people have given her. Otherwise, she'd just be another random person who plays boring music. Since when has mainstream music not been something a 10 year old could make? There's really nothing special about Avril.

And there's a lot worse music out there to ***** about. Have you heard that fucking band Chevelle? That's the kind of shit I just can't deal with.

That's like saying, "My taste in food is much better than yours". Preferences are preferences, one can't be "better" than the other. If I love something and you hate it, obviously I'm going to think it's "good", but it's not, "good" is a relative term. Preferences can't be good or bad.

Unless you prefer high culture (which the concept of can be argued as racist anyway) to popular culture argueing that your tastes are better than anyone elses is exceedingly arogant since they are only preferences and are incomparible with other preferences, as preferences are opinions which are neither right or wrong, as I can see from your posts your preferance isn't high culture (ie. classical music) then your attempts to claim that your taste in music is better fall apart. Blue is not a superior colour to yellow, nor is ginger beer a superior tasting drink to cream soda, they are merely 2 colours/drinks, likewise a taste for Justin Timberlake is no "superior" to a taste for The Sex Pistols.

Chevelle is corporate shit, just like Avril, and just like Justin Timberlake. The music industry is just as capitalistic as any other industry. Listen to whatever you want, but a pop song is a pop song. Same verse/chorus/verse song structure. Same steady mid-tempo driving speed. Some songs just annoy me more. Especially that fucking "I'll seeeeend the pain beeeeelow" bullshit.

By the way, I haven't really mentioned the bands that I listen to, so throwing the "your taste sucks" back at me doesn't really work.

i do not say this because i am a great metal head (heavy metal fan) or something, wich i am not, in fact Sepultura is the ony heavy metal band i listen to, apart from some musics of Pantera, and some pretty heavy rock and roll like Boikot and RATM...
i also enjoy good non comercial alternative music, what leaves me to hate avril and her professional wannabes and friends even more...
