Ok so like I said in chitchat, I just came back from the Jazz festival in Montreal. I was there from 8pm to midnight and listened to most of the free outside gigs...

I never was into Jazz, until now.
I don't know what happened, as I was at my 3rd drink, while in front of the stage listening to the ozzy frantic music of some Quebecer band called Manouche, I couldn't help feel the vibe all over my body. As if someone else was inside me and moving my every muscle to the rythm of the music coming to my ears..

I was captivated.

I just wanted more and more. 4th drink, more smoke, and more music, I felt good.

From gig to gig, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I never thought Jazz could be so great. Ok so I was in the mood thx to the cigs and booze, but still...

Then when we left, my cousin played me this Erik Truffaz album in his car, titled The Walk of The Giant Turtle, and I was bedazzled.

Am I in love?

Oh one more thing, there's this band called Loston Harris, from the US, that started playing old Cole and Armstrong (i think) stuff...

it was incredible...

Yes Hampton's list is essential listening but check also..

Pharoah Sanders, Alice Coltrane, Charlie "bird" Parker, Stan Getz, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughn, Larry Adler, Dave Brubeck, Art Tatum, Count Basie etc.....
It's funny how Jazz picks people, not vice versa.
