Clasical music, has been shown to be better for you.
It does not have any lyrics that can be misinterpreted.
It is normally played softer then rock or punk or pop, and so doesn't deafen one.
The compossers didn't write the stuff to earn lots of money.
All the good compossers are dead so in the current system one doesn't have to worry about copywrite issues.

I like some stuff, like Kodaly, but it doesn't really get you going, as such.

To be blunt, it is music by old dead guys who (obviously) can't relate to the present.

Classical music is really good for when you read. I can't stand silence and music with lyrics is really distracting. That's the only time I listen to classical music, except for when I use this cd lense cleaner. When it's done cleaning it plays this one classical song that I really like. My CD lense ends up getting really clean :)
I read somewhere that listening to classical music while studying makes you smarter. I think it has something to do with the beats or something that makes it mess with your brain. It doesn't have to be classical though.

some classical is good, I am rather fond of Holst's Planets suit (sp?), Ode to Joy is a good piece, and some other famous stuff is good. However I perfer my Modern misinterpreted, loud, and according to you capitalist modern music.

But hey each to their own, as they say.

I am an avid listener of classical music. I am a great fan of Bach and Beethoven. However, i also enjoy Greensleeves (predates our idea of a classical composition by a few hundred years of course). It IS the greatest music of all time. It is the most complex, the least offensive. It is music for the sake of music, using instruments meant to convey emotions, but not do it in an offensive or vulgar fashion. It is "civilized." I like rock, but rock is far more "raw" in its emotion. It is also simpler by far (for the most part)

Well yesterday I heard "classical" music from the twentieth century alongside some good ol' Handel and Mendolssohn and the rest, very intreesting! There was this awesome piece called The Unanswered Question with a flute quartet at the front of the stage, a trupet at the back corner and a string orchestra offstage, it was very clever, about looking for the meaning of life and I just wish I could listen to it a few more times!

Studies have shown that classical music, and especially Mozart, is very beneficial when studying or just before studying as it orders the brain in some way and helps thought processes, so my mum's put together a tape for me when I'm doing coursework! Personally I like mine a little more passionate, I adore ballet music.
