The Feral Underclass
20th July 2009, 22:52
It's about the uprising that occurred in 2007 put together from footage taken during the various events leading up to and during the big demonstrations. The footage was captured by a network of secret reporters working for Democratic Voice of Burma who smuggled out what they secretly shot to be broadcast by various international news agency as well as their own satellite channel. The film is narrated by the guy who set up the whole network. It's quite an amazing documentary and the bravery of these people is absolutely phenomenal, they're inspiring. Not just the reporters but the people on the streets. Unfortunately many of the reporters were eventually arrested and are now awaiting trial, hence this documentary which aims to bring awareness along side a pretty liberal campaign. Most of the people who have come to see it are those horrible middle-class liberal types who like to offset their guilt by watching lefty documentaries and sign petitions. Nevertheless I recommend that people go and see it.

The website is here, where I think you can watch the film: http://burmavjmovie.com/

Thanks for this website link, unforunately I missed the period that it was in the cinemas here in London, think its only showing at the super expensive ICA now. I'm glad in a way that it was such a talked about film with the middle class boohoo-ers, it should become more talked about. I'm off to the Burmese/Thai boarder on monday (at an orphanage/single mums camp), films are over their heads to the Karen refugees, but maybe I can show them online so thanks for the link.
