Yeah, David Gilmour was originally the touring frontman for Pink Floyd, who the band recruited after Syd Barrett started going totally apeshit on stage due to his massive drug intake.

I guess the idea was that David Gilmour would be the lead guitarist and singer when the band was on tour, while Barrett could still add to Pink Floyd's studio material.

The funny thing is that the band's management decided to keep Barrett as a solo act while dropping the rest of the band. Of course, the band became one of the most successful of all-time, and Syd Barrett apparently hasn't seen direct sunlight in a decade or two.

Still, many people consider the one album Syd recorded with Pink Floyd to be their best of all.

Pink Floyd's album "The Final Cut" truly shows Roger Waters brilliance as a lyricist. The message is clearly anti imperialistic, anti war. It could very well be my favorite Floyd album.

Without Roger Waters, the band went to shit. All Pink Floyd did after parting ways with Roger was pablum pop trash.

Nahh Pink Floyds best album was Dark Side of the Moon, Gilmour definatly showed why he is considered one of the greatest guitarists in Rock history when they made that.

I'd single out different songs from different albums, so I couldn't be able to decide which is my favourite Pink Floyd album. I do, however, love "Comfortable Numb" and "Sheep". Sheep especially, is just fantastic. Especially when they recite psalm 23 with a robotic voice and then do their "lamb cutlets" analogy...just brilliant :)
