View Full Version : From ACT to MP3
ACT is some fileformat used by voicerecorders. I made recordings of the summerschool, but some of them are in this rather obscure format (most are luckily in WAV though).
Does anyone know if one can convert this to a readable format?

If there is a solution to your problem of format conversion, it will be found at http://www.doom9.org

You can take a look here for some possible options, they give a few links you might be able to use.
Above links haven't been very helpful for me. Any other suggestions?

Did you see this one?

Edit:
It also mentions this in the wiki article:
There are different versions of ACT; files produced by later devices cannot as of June 2009[update] (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=ACT_%28audio_format%29&action=edit) be read by any free standard audio player and converter software, only by the supplied MP3 utilities.
So it might just be that you're out of luck if the above tool doesn't work.
Yeah, tried that one and several others. I however run on Linux and Wine support for these obscure third party apps is not always optimal.

You didn't mention you were on linux.
I'm not sure if there's a tool on linux you can use, but do you have a copy of windows lying around that you could run in virtualbox or something just to convert these files for you? I know it's a pain, but preliminary research is telling me that there's no linux software suitable for the job.

Well, I was hoping for getting more suitable options aswell, or at least being able to run the apps in Wine. I guess I can't always be in luck.

I'll ask someone who has Windows to try the suggested options then.
