View Full Version : The only band that matters. - The greatest punk rock sociali

I may be dating myself here but I wanted to pay tribute to one of the greatest Punk Rock Leftists of our days.
When I was a kid I had only a few heros that I absolutely idolised. Castro, Guevara, Allende, Lorca, Stalin (no comments please) and Joe Strummer of The Clash. This year we unfortunately lost him to a heart attack. His Socialist views were what I based my ideals on until I actually understood what being a communist meant. I give credit to all the great men mentioned above for making me the person I am today. I had not cried in many years until I heard of his death. His and the rest of the lad's music will always be with me until the end of my days.
I now raise a pint in memory of Joe.
Cheers,
Julian

Duane Peters...I know this Kat. He's a nutter. Plays with the US Bombs and the Huns...Have I got a couple wild stories about hangin' with this wacko...what a great fuckin' time!
I met all the English Punk Icons way back in the day when they were not famous and would squat all over London...I miss those days...Sort of.....It was a pretty small community...every one pretty much knew each other..

Ya, Duane Peters is a legend. When the U.S Bombs came to Seattle we drank with him and skated with him afterward. Did you know he was a professional skater ?
I'd love to hear any stories about hanging out with old punkers.

Yeah, I've known him for a few years...He was the first pro skater to get all the way on a full pipe.

That's awesome. I am also a Clash fan, I don't know much about them but they're lyrics are a lot better then most of the crap you hear anymore.

Crass is a good band. Not as good as The Clash but still good.
I think Duane has spit on everybody at one point it time...
My advice Indy, Go buy all the albums. Starting with the first...Try to get both the English import and the US version...The UK release has a couple great tunes that were deleted from the US release..You can get 'em on Clash on Broadway however...But then you won't get some of the greatest tunes off Give 'em enough rope and London Calling...But you will get a shit load of "B" sides that are essential.

Joe Strummer was great. He was a big influence on the revolutionary left wing band the Redskins. In fact Joe Strummer gave the Redskins frontman X Moore a telecaster guitar.

Joe Strummer is a genuine icon. Ok the Mescaleros could have been better but the Clash - probably the best band... ever - whoa.. that's a big statement but I think I mean it I recently got the Westway to the world dvd directed by Don Letts - essential...
