BIG BROTHER
16th July 2009, 16:08
Sorry to bother you guys again (and by that you know who I mean ;)) but I was wondering If I could get a flyer for this event about the Nicaraguan Revolution. We're going to have a comrade who was a student organizer during that time, and who also fought against the contras.
Bellow is the text of the flyer. Also it would be really cool if a super revolutionary looking image of the Nicaraguan Revolution was put in the flyer.
Thank you in advance.
Text for flyer:
The 40th Annivesary of the Nicaraguan Revolution
w/ Nicaraguan revolutionary leader Rodrigo Ibarra
Wednesday July 22 -- De Anza College
On July 19th, 1979, the people of Nicaragua rose up and toppled the hated Somoza dictatorship, sending shock waves throughout the world that still reverberate today. Join us at this special event with Nicaraguan leader Rodrigo Ibarra to hear a first-person account of the workers' and peasants' insurrection and its lessons for today, at a moment when a revolutionary wave is again shaking the Americas, from Honduras to Venezuela.
Under the Somoza dictatorship, Ibarra was an important student leader in Managua. He was imprisoned for his underground activism and his brother was murdered by the armed forces of the dictatorship. After the 1979 revolution, Ibarra was a Colonel in the civil war against the U.S.-funded Contras and he eventually became the head of the Institute on Agrarian Reform (ITZTANI). Ibarra recently co-authored the important book Nicaragua: The Unfinished Revolution and currently organizes for immigrants rights in the Bay Area.
