LoveLetter's Theory of Oppression
I was talking with LoveLetter about Northern Ireland and the conversation turned into one about oppression.
"It is the oppressed who are responsable for their own oppression. They should just settle for life the way things are."
This confused me.
"What do you mean, LoveLetter? They should just let the British and Loyalists oppress them?"
"Yes. This would end oppression."
"What?"
"We are only oppressed if we resist, if we recognise it as oppression. The solution is to not resist. If you let someone rape you, then it is no longer rape. It becomes consensual sex, a standard social interaction, not oppressive at all. The same is true of any social interaction that we might consider to be coercive or oppressive. If we decide to accept it and cooperate then the oppression disappears."
The clouds parted and sunlight briefly shone on her smiling face.
"The best way to end oppression is not through resistance, it is through complete submission. In this way we transform what once was oppression into normal everyday life. This also makes society function perfectly."
LoveLetter's theory of oppression made sense so we agreed that it is their own fault and then we had tea.

I don't know who this LoveLetter person is, but that sounds like the biggest load of shit I have ever heard in my entire life.

Yes, but he would be sure to let you know he does not like it.

LoveLetter in the Morning
This morning I found LoveLetter hanging from the ceiling. She hung opposite the window, as if looking out to the council flats and broken homes, looking for another explanation. Like a child who never left this miserable island staring out at the deep blue sea.
I don't think she ever really believed her theory of oppression, or any of her other theories. These were probably all jokes on her part. Some humour to pass the time. I should have laughed.
Below her was an unopened bottle of whiskey (a gift from me a while ago. Perhaps her alcoholism was a joke too), and a portrait of Stalin. Her hand rested in the front of her trousers.
Collapsing to the parquet floor, I cried for the girl who hung before me finally lifeless.
LoveLetter, I never understood you.

Brilliant. But I think you killed the character too fast.

No, but such people usually are cool and different.
Alternatively, she has experienced too much of it and established a shield from her own experiences, relativising them and establishing herself in some sort of world of childish innocence.

If you don't write a 500 pages long novel about Loveletter, I am going to break your fingers :(

Actually I was considering writing a load of these short things and piecing them together, to make a story of some kind
Need to think of some more ideas though
Im pleased you like it

I like the Loveletter character so much I am ready to shamelessly steal the concept. I actually know a girl who is somewhat like that.

Haha, cool. Yeah I like her too.
Well if you do steal the concept, you should show me because im curious to see your take on her
I don't know if I'd be any good at writing a novel, mostly I just do short prose or poem..

I don't know if I am either. Right now, I am translating a 220 page fantasy book I have written to English.

I could never concentrate long enough to write something more than 1 page long, let alone 220

You should try. I have found it extremely difficult to write a novel length story. I have been stuck on the first chapter and have played with it because I am constantly writing too much of the story in too few pages. I just can get out of short story mode. But you might be better.
