The leader of the far-right British National Party had a pint of beer thrown over him at a Painswick pub on Saturday night.

Nick Griffin was dining with BNP colleagues in The Falcon Inn in Painswick when the incident happened.

An 18-year-old was ejected from the pub for arguing with the group, and waited outside for them to leave.

When the party walked out of the pub, at around 11.30pm, the teenager threw a drink over Mr Griffin.

The youth then claimed to have been assaulted by the men with the BNP leader.

A statement issued by Gloucestershire police yesterday confirmed the incident.

It said: "On Sunday, July 12, Gloucestershire Constabulary received a phone call from an 18-year-old man stating that he had been assaulted the previous night, July 11, outside The Falcon Public House on New Street, Painswick.

"The man stated that he had been asked to leave the pub after he was involved in an argument with a group of diners.

"He left the premises but remained outside and a while later, at approximately 11.30pm, the group of diners left and he threw drink at them.

"Following this the group restrained him and it was during this time that the man states he was assaulted and bruising caused to his face.

"He did not wish to make a formal complaint about the incident."

Simon Darby, a spokesman for the BNP, said: "Somebody threw a pint of beer over Nick, I was not there, but that is what I have been told.

"We would like to find out who it was though.

"It appears it was an opponent of ours who thinks he can go around throwing drinks over people.

"I can't believe he claimed he was assaulted, if you go into a pub and throw a pint over someone then you are asking for trouble.

"In this day and age, you never know what was in that glass - it could have been battery acid.

"It was thrown over Nick Griffin, who only has one eye anyway."

Staff at the pub declined to comment on the incident.

I thought he might have had it coming (who throws a drink at someone and doesn't either leg it, or get ready for a fight?) until I read "It might have contained battery acid".
Haha
Hilarious.

They should turn it into a reality game show. Five hundred quid to the most inventive ambush of Nick Griffin in a public place.

Beer is one of the things I would prefer to have thrown at me. Next time, try eggs. Or better yet, tar and feathers.

They have in fact thrown eggs at him before it's on youtube :D but next time I would like to see someone clobber him over the head with a bat or throw a brick at him that would be awesome :thumbup1:

I bet so, I think the manager of this establishment should be paid a visit and asked why he thinks it's acceptable to host meetings and dinners for leading fascists.

well if they are paying customers why is it not appropriate to host dinners for them, they may be the 'bad men' but as laws stand they are perfectly entitled to meet up to consume drink and booze. i should imagine if you barred them due to their political views you would just be giving them ammunition to use for how
good honest white british people are being discriminated against?

just worth makeing the point

A bit concerned about that. ''Oh it doesn't matter about that old woman, she only had one eye anyway''. Though I suppose it is Nick Griffin we're talking about. It's funny how things that would ordinarily be terrible are great as long as they're happening to him!

Well done to whoever did it. No platform should be permitted for that wanker.

I have no doubt the brave assailant was assaulted, as its what the paid thugs who escort Griffin are trained to do. They have their own security group, BNP Security, to guard Griffin.

The worrying thing is that they are being financed, as they've massive call centres in Belfast and one in England too. No party could run those without receiving a large amount of funds.

Well of course fascism has a long history of being backrolled by the rich. Also, since the BNP have covered alot of their former rhetoric and begun to grow more and seem 'respectable' to alot of people, they naturally receive alot more open support and finance.

It always shocks me though because its so easy to see through them. Time and time again they are exposed in the media, and by their own former members, and yet they still seem to be getting support and finance completely disproportionate to their size.

And that is why the reformist hippie-douchebags calling to 'only expose them, confront them with arguments' are wrong.

To a significant part of the population it doesn't MATTER if it's a fascist party employing skinhead thugs to beat up opposition as long as it's considered 'respectable' in the media.
As soon as they get a platform and are treated as respectable, people will see them as such, treat them as such and finance them as such, regardless of their 'true nature'.
That is why no-platform is so important.

is THIS what the brave men of our armed forces stormed normandy for? so that - in this day and age - you can't be certain whether its beer they have in pint glasses at pubs or battery acid, perhaps poisonous semen taken from a sea monster, perhaps some raw eggs that a tramp threw up, perhaps polish plumber, perhaps EVEN DRUGS! In OUR COUNTRY!

Throwing beer, eggs, battery acid or anything else at Nick Griffin is damaging the anti-fascist cause by giving the BNP grounds for arguing that we are against democratic rights and want all who oppose us silenced, we need to get into a proper debate with these people, oppose their demonstrations. we need to fight an information war against them, not some petty assaults

I don't see why "an information war" and petty assaults are mutually exclusive, tho. Tories, Labour and Lib Dem politicians also oppose us, but they don't get attacked.

debate with them by all means if its the only option, if they already have a plaform and are established in an area but otherwise there are other means. they will lie & use rhetoric & emotion instead of logic and reason so debate is difficult

You cant debate with them and thats the truth. Two reasons why;
1) the security services aren't interested in you debating the BNP they just need usefull idiots guided by state agents to act as there street thugs repressing anyone who actually rocks the global capitalist boat.
2) To be able to really debate them you would need to organise yourselves into a viable far left party the way the far right have and you seem incapable of that and it certainly isn't in the interests of your MI5 controllers that would give them two headaches.
You are exactly where the state wants you doing exactly what they want you to do.You have allowed yourselves to become the stormtroopers of global capitalism and the pan Euro American Oligarchy.

I think we coutner their arguments by putting ours out. I think our movement (the revolutionary workers movement) needs to have an anti-fascist wing. Anti-fascism will only be an extension of our broader pro working class politics. The BNP didn't grow to where they are by telling everyone how rubbish communism is, they did it by putting forward there own opinion. We can only fight them by putting forward our own, better opinions. In the meanwhile we should oppose them meaningfully wherever they appear, i.e. through physically making it impossible for them to organise or hold public events. That is what no platform is about.

It's nice that you've got such faith in the loyalty and rightousness of all those around you who pontificate so loudly on your side but where has your movement been taken, what is it doing in the midst of the greatest economic crisis since the 1930's?
